2013 Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing Season
The 2013 FIM MotoGP World Championship was the premier class of the 65th F.I.M. Road Racing World Championship season. Season summary Jorge Lorenzo started the season as the defending World Champion, while Honda was the defending Manufacturers' Champion. Moto2 champion Marc Márquez joined the MotoGP grid with Repsol Honda. In the premier MotoGP class, Lorenzo, along with Repsol Honda teammates Marc Márquez and Dani Pedrosa battled it out for most of the season in regards to the championship battle. Lorenzo won the opening race of the season in Qatar, before rookie Márquez became the youngest premier class winner, as he claimed victory in the inaugural Grand Prix of the Americas in Texas. The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM; en, International Motorcycling Federation) is the global governing/sanctioning body of motorcycle racing. It represents 116 national motorcycle federations that are divided into six regional continental unions. There are seven motorcycle-racing disciplines that FIM covers, encompassing 82 world championships as well as hundreds of secondary championships: enduro, trial, circuit racing, motocross and supermoto, cross-country, e-bike, and track racing. The 2013 Malaysian motorcycle Grand Prix was the fifteenth round of the 2013 MotoGP season. It was held at the Sepang International Circuit in Sepang on 13 October 2013. Spain's Ana Carrasco became the first female rider to score a point since Katja Poensgen at the 2001 Italian Grand Prix, and the first in the Moto3 class. The 2013 Dutch TT was the seventh round of the 2013 MotoGP season. It was held at the TT Circuit Assen in Assen on 29 June 2013.
