22 Under 22 Team
The 22 Under 22 team (stylised as 22under22) is an honorary representative Australian rules football team created by the AFL Players' Association that seeks to recognise the best young talent in the Australian Football League (AFL) and AFL Women's (AFLW) competitions each year. To be eligible for selection, players must be aged 22 or under for the entire season (including finals). An initial squad of 40 is selected by the AFL Players' Board, before fans select a final team of 22 by voting via social media. Selection process The 22 Under 22 team is the only AFL award decided by fans. Supporters were asked to pick their best teams via Facebook, or vote for individual players via Twitter. The concept proved to be popular amongst AFL players, with many high-profile footballers voting and sharing their teams on social media. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an Australian rules football playing field, oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the Football (ball)#Australian rules football, oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. Trent Cotchin
Trent William Cotchin (born 7 April 1990) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is an All-Australian, a three-time Jack Dyer Medal, Richmond best and fairest winner, a Brownlow Medal, Brownlow medallist, and a three-time premiership winning captain. Cotchin represented the Victorian Metro side at the 2007 AFL Under 18 Championships and captained the Vic Metro side at 2006 Under 16 Championships. Dustin Martin
Dustin Martin (born 26 June 1991) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Martin was drafted by Richmond with the third pick in the 2009 AFL draft#2009 national draft, 2009 national draft, and made his AFL debut in the opening round of the 2010 season. Jack Darling (born 13 June 1992) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the North Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL), having previously been a premiership player with the West Coast Eagles. Darling was recruited from West Perth in the WAFL with pick 26 in the 2010 AFL Draft. David Zaharakis
David Zaharakis (born 21 February 1990) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played 13 seasons for the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life Zaharakis attended Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School and finished Year 12 in 2008 at Marcellin College, where he also won the Terrence Cleary Memorial Sporting Award for sportsmanship and sporting excellence. Daniel Hannebery (born 24 February 1991) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played for the Sydney Swans from 2009 to 2018 and for the St Kilda Football Club from 2019 to 2022. Hannebery won the AFL Rising Star award in his second season in 2010, and is a three-time All-Australian. Steele Sidebottom
Steele Sidebottom (born 2 January 1991) is a professional Australian rules football player currently playing for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League. He made the All-Australian team in 2018 and is a two-time Copeland Trophy winner. Sidebottom was selected by Collingwood with selection 11 in the 2008 AFL Draft. Callan Ward (born 10 April 1990) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL). Jackson Trengove (born 2 November 1990) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Port Adelaide Football Club and Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL). AFL career Port Adelaide (2008–2017) Port Adelaide used their second round pick, number 22, to draft Trengove in 2008. Dyson Heppell
Dyson Heppell (born 14 May 1992) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for and captained the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Heppell won the AFL Rising Star award in his first season in 2011, and won a Crichton Medal and All-Australian team, All-Australian selection in 2014. He served as List of Essendon Football Club captains, Essendon captain from the 2017 season, and relinquished the captaincy before the 2023 season proper having led the side 107 times. Alex James Rance (born 9 October 1989) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Daniel Talia (born 2 October 1991) is a former professional Australian rules football player who played for the Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted with selection 13 in the 2009 National Draft from the Calder Cannons. In 2012 he won the AFL Rising Star award as the best young player in the league.
