It was initially known as the 14th Landwehr Division (). The 205th Coastal Division () was an infantry Division (military), division of the Royal Italian Army during World War II. The was an infantry Division (military unit), division of the Imperial Japanese Army. Its call sign was the , after the Aki District, Hiroshima. It was formed on 2 April 1945 in Hiroshima as a triangular division. It was one of a batch of eight divisions comprising the 201st Division (Imperial Japanese Army), 201st, 202nd Division (Imperial Japanese Army), 202nd, 205th, 206th Division (Imperial Japanese Army), 206th, 209th Division (Imperial Japanese Army), 209th, 212th Division (Imperial Japanese Army), 212th, 214th Division (Imperial Japanese Army), 214th and 216th Division (Imperial Japanese Army), 216th Divisions that were created as part of the Japanese reaction to the Battle of Okinawa.
