2026 FIFA World Cup Qualification (inter-confederation Play-offs)
The inter-confederation play-offs of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification tournament will determine two qualification spots for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be played in Canada, Mexico and the United States. The play-offs will take place in March 2026 in one or more of the host countries. Format The slot allocation for the inter-confederation play-offs was confirmed by the FIFA Council in 2017. Each confederation received one play-off slot, with the exception of UEFA, with an additional play-off also given to the confederation of the host association(s). As Canada, Mexico and the United States were later appointed as hosts for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, CONCACAF received two spots in the play-off tournament, while the Asian Football Confederation, AFC, Confederation of African Football, CAF, CONMEBOL and Oceania Football Confederation, OFC each received one. 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualification (inter-confederation Play-offs)
For the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification, there were two scheduled inter-confederation play-offs to determine the final two qualification spots to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Matches were played on 13–14 June 2022 in the city of Al Rayyan, Qatar (one of the venues of the World Cup). Format The draw for the inter-confederation play-offs was held on 26 November 2021, 17:00 CET, in Zürich, Switzerland. Four teams from four confederations ( AFC, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, and OFC) were drawn into two ties. Originally, the two teams in each tie were to play a two-legged home-and-away series.
