2025 Portuguese Legislative Election
A Snap election, snap legislative election took place in Portugal on 18 May 2025 to elect members of the Assembly of the Republic (Portugal), Assembly of the Republic for the 17th Legislature. All 230 seats to the Assembly of the Republic were up for election. Following allegations of Conflict of interest, conflicts of interest in relation to the Prime Minister's family business, the incumbent government called a confidence vote, which it lost on 11 March 2025. The President of Portugal, President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, then called an election for 18 May: the third legislative election in less than four years. The centre-right to right-wing Democratic Alliance (Portugal, 2024), Democratic Alliance (AD), led by the incumbent Prime Minister LuÃs Montenegro, won the largest number of seats. Together for the People (, JPP) is a political party operating primarily in Madeira. Its founding principles are Unity, Transparency and Resistance, as evidenced by its symbol. It was legalised by the Portuguese Constitutional Court on 27 January 2015. Élvio Duarte Martins Sousa (born 19 April 1974) is a Portuguese archeologist and politician from Madeira, currently serving as the secretary-general of Together for the People and as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira since 2015.
