2024–25 UEFA Champions League
The 2024–25 UEFA Champions League was the 70th season of Europe's premier club football tournament organised by UEFA, and the 33rd season since it was rebranded from the European Champion Clubs' Cup to the UEFA Champions League. This was the first season under a new format, which had 36 participating teams that played eight games each against different opponents in a league phase, all the teams being ranked in a joint group. This increased the total number of matches played in the competition from 125 to 189 (excluding qualifying rounds). Luis Enrique's Paris Saint-Germain defeated Simone Inzaghi's Inter Milan 5–0 in the final, which was held at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, to win their first Champions League title in a record margin of victory. Simone Inzaghi
Simone Inzaghi (; born 5 April 1976) is an Italian professional football manager and former player, who is currently the head coach of Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal. Nicknamed "''Il demone di Piacenza''" ("The Piacenza Demon") because of his ability to find unexpected tactical solutions and his verbal and non-verbal coaching communication style, Inzaghi is known for helping revive the 3–5–2 tactical setup. Inzaghi began his playing career in 1994 with Piacenza but was loaned to several clubs, including Novara and Lumezzane, where he won back-to-back Serie C2 titles in 1996 and 1997. 2024–25 UEFA Champions League Knockout Phase
The 2024–25 UEFA Champions League knockout phase began on 11 February with the knockout phase play-offs and ended on 31 May 2025 with the final at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, to decide the champions of the 2024–25 UEFA Champions League. A total of 24 teams competed in the knockout phase, with 16 entering in the play-offs and 8 receiving a bye to the round of 16. The 2024–25 UEFA Europa League was the 54th season of Europe's secondary club football tournament organised by UEFA, and the 16th season since it was renamed from the UEFA Cup to the UEFA Europa League. This was the first season played under a new format, which replaced the 32-team group stage with a 36-team league phase. This increased the total number of matches played in the competition (excluding qualifying rounds) from 141 to 189. The new format also did not allow teams to transfer from the Champions League league or knockout phase to the Europa League knockout phase; as the winner of the Europa League automatically qualifies for the Champions League league phase, the Europa League winners (Atalanta in the 2023–24 edition) could no longer defend their title.
