2024–25 St. Thomas (Minnesota) Tommies Men's Basketball Team
The 2024–25 St. Thomas Tommies men's basketball team represented the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota), University of St. Thomas in the 2024–25 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Tommies, led by 14th-year head coach John Tauer, played their home games at Schoenecker Arena in Saint Paul, Minnesota as members of the Summit League. This season originally marked St. Thomas's fourth year of a five-year transition period from NCAA Division III, Division III to NCAA Division I, Division I, an incredibly rare and historic jump that bypasses Division II altogether. However on January 15, 2025 the National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA voted to amend the reclassification timeline for transitioning Division I institutions, reducing the Division III to Division I transition period from five years to four. John Tauer
Johnny Tauer (born September 18, 1972) is an Americans, American psychologist, professor and basketball coach (basketball), coach. He is the current head coach of the St. Thomas (Minnesota) Tommies, St. Thomas Tommies men's basketball team. Playing career Tauer played collegiately under Steve Fritz at St. Thomas, where he was an all-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, MIAC selection his senior year, and part of the Tommies 1994 NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament, 1994 NCAA Division III Final Four team. He ranks 14th in school history in scoring, 15th in rebounding and is sixth all time in MIAC history in three-point baskets. Coaching career After earning his doctorate in social psychology the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Tauer returned to St. Thomas as a professor and assistant men's basketball coach under Fritz.
