2024–25 Scottish Women's Premier League
The 2024–25 season of the Scottish Women's Premier League, also known as ''ScottishPower Women's Premier League'' for sponsorship reasons, is the 24th iteration of the top-tier Scottish women's football league, and the 3rd season organised by the Scottish Professional Football League. The division is sometimes referred to as ''SWPL 1'' when distinction from the lower division of the competition, known as ''SWPL 2'', is required. The 2024–25 season began with the defending champions Celtic hosting Dundee United on 10 August 2024. The final matchday of the regular season is scheduled for 2 March 2025 and the last post-split matchday (32nd game overall) is scheduled for 18 May 2025. Due to the format changes planned for the 2025–26 season, which will bring the number of teams in both the SWPL and SWPL 2 to ten, the 2024–25 season is transitional. Scottish Women's Premier League
The Scottish Women's Premier League (SWPL) is the highest level of league competition in women's football in Scotland. Its two divisions are SWPL (previously styled as ''SWPL 1'') and SWPL 2. The league was formed when the Premier Division of the Scottish Women's Football League (SWFL) broke away to form the SWPL in 2002. SWPL 2 was introduced in 2016. The divisions contain (in the 2022–23 season) 12 clubs in SWPL and eight in SWPL 2. Glasgow City have won 16 championships, including 14 in succession from 2007–08 until 2020–21. The champions and runners-up qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League. From 2002, the league was owned and managed by Scottish Women's Football. Springburn
Springburn () is an inner-city district in the north of the Scottish city of Glasgow, made up of generally working-class households. Springburn developed from a rural hamlet at the beginning of the 19th century. Its industrial expansion began with the establishment of a chemical works by Charles Tennant on the newly opened Monkland Canal at nearby St. Rollox in 1799, which later became part of the United Alkali Company. Later in the 19th century, the construction of railway lines through the area led to the establishment of railway works and the village became a parish in its own right. The Excelsior Stadium, officially The Albert Bartlett Stadium, is a football stadium in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Elena Sadiku (born 6 November 1993) is a Swedish football manager and former player who is the head coach of Scottish club Celtic. Playing career She was an Under-19 international. She started her career with LdB Malmö, before moving to Kristianstad and Eskilstuna United. Sadiku suffered a knee injury in July 2014. She scored a hat-trick in her comeback game a year later, only to suffer another serious knee injury a few days later. She was unable to play in 2016 and after suffering from depression, left Eskilstuna at the end of the season. Shortly afterwards, newly- promoted Hammarby announced that they had signed Sadiku and were hoping she could overcome her injuries and recapture her best form. Airdrie, North Lanarkshire
Airdrie (; ; ) is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It lies on a plateau 400 ft (130 m) above sea level, 12 miles (19 km) east of Glasgow. , it had a population of 37,130. Airdrie developed as a market town in the late 17th century following an act of Parliament allowing it to hold a weekly market. Balmoral Stadium is a football ground located in the Cove Bay area of Aberdeen, Scotland. Opened in 2018, it is the home ground of club Cove Rangers. Scott Booth
Scott Booth (born 16 December 1971) is a Scottish football coach and former player, who is the head coach of Aberdeen Women in the Scottish Women's Premier League 1. A forward by position, he began his playing career at Aberdeen as a teenager, before moving to Germany in 1997 to play for Borussia Dortmund. After a spell in the Netherlands with FC Twente (as well as loans from Dortmund to FC Utrecht and Vitesse Arnhem), he returned to Aberdeen in 2003, retiring a year later due to injury. After his retirement as a player Booth became a coach, working with the Scotland youth teams. After a year as manager of Stenhousemuir he moved into women's football, becoming manager of Glasgow City. Cove Bay
Cove Bay, known locally as Cove, is a suburb on the south-east edge of Aberdeen, Scotland. Today Cove is home to around 8,000 people. It is a popular residential location owing to its village-like status. It is a quiet suburb at the Southern edge of Aberdeen City and in 2020 won the Silver Gilt award for Scotland in Bloom.
