2024–25 Maryland Terrapins Men's Basketball Team
The 2024–25 Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team represented the University of Maryland, College Park during the 2024–25 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led by third-year head coach Kevin Willard and played their home games at Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland, as a member of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 27–9, 14–6 in Big Ten play to finish in a tie for second place. As the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten tournament, they beat Illinois in the quarterfinals before losing to Michigan in the semifinals. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 4 seed in the West region. They defeated Grand Canyon and Colorado State to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. Kevin Willard
Kevin Schreiber Willard (born April 6, 1975) is an American college basketball coach and the incoming men's basketball head coach at Villanova University. Willard played basketball at Western Kentucky during the 1992–93 season before transferring to Pittsburgh to finish his playing career. Willard's father, Ralph Willard, was the associate head coach at Louisville and a former head men's basketball coach at Western Kentucky, Pittsburgh, and Holy Cross. Kevin Willard started his coaching career in the NBA ranks, working on the bench with coach Rick Pitino of the Boston Celtics. After Pitino resigned from the Celtics in 2001, Willard followed him to Louisville, and spent the next six years there as his assistant. Brent Langdon "Buzz" Williams (born September 1, 1972) is an American basketball coach who is the head coach at the University of Maryland. He previously served as head coach at Texas A&M from 2019 to 2025, Virginia Tech from 2014 to 2019, Marquette from 2008 to 2014, and New Orleans during the 2006–07 season, and as an assistant coach at Texas-Arlington, Texas A&M–Kingsville, Northwestern State, Colorado State, and Texas A&M. Jahmir Young (born October 7, 2000) is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA), on a two-way contract with the Windy City Bulls of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Charlotte 49ers and Maryland Terrapins. 2024 National Invitation Tournament
The 2024 National Invitation Tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 32 NCAA Division I men's college basketball teams not selected to participate in the 2024 NCAA tournament. The tournament began on March 19 and ended on April 4. The first three rounds were played on campuses, with the semifinal and championship final played at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. The 2024 Big Ten men's basketball tournament (branded as the 2024 TIAA Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament for sponsorship reasons) was a postseason men's basketball tournament for the Big Ten Conference of the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season which took place from March 13–17, 2024. The tournament was held at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This was the first year in which the first round is broadcast by Peacock.
