2024–25 Marquette Golden Eagles Men's Basketball Team
The 2024–25 Marquette Golden Eagles men's basketball team represented Marquette University during the 2024–25 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Golden Eagles, led by fourth-year head coach Shaka Smart, played their home games at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a member of the Big East Conference. Previous season The Golden Eagles finished the 2023–24 season 27–10, 14–6 in Big East play to finish in tie for second place. As a No. 3 seed in the Big East tournament they defeated Villanova in the quarterfinals and Providence in the semifinals to advance to the championship game where they lost to UConn. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the South region. Shaka Smart
Shaka Dingani Smart (born April 8, 1977) is an American men's college basketball coach and former college basketball player. He is the current head men's basketball coach at Marquette University. Smart rose to prominence in 2011 after leading Virginia Commonwealth University to its first and only Final Four appearance in school history in the 2011 NCAA tournament. Early life, education, and playing career Smart was born April 8, 1977, in Madison, Wisconsin to Winston Smart and Monica King. Smart's father was not supportive of Smart and left the family in 1994. He grew up in Fitchburg and attended Oregon High School in Oregon, Wisconsin. Smart, who is biracial, was one of "10 or so" students of color at Oregon High and experienced racism while attending the school. Osasere Benjamin "Oso" Ighodaro (born July 14, 2002) is an American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The 2024 NBA draft was the 78th edition of the National Basketball Association's annual NBA draft, draft. Unlike recent years, the 2024 draft took place over two nights. This was the first NBA draft to be held on multiple nights since the draft was shortened to two rounds, with earlier drafts consisting of as few as three or as many as twenty-one rounds prior to the current format's debut in 1989. The 2023–24 Colorado Buffaloes men's basketball team represented the University of Colorado Boulder in the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season.
