2024–25 Latvian–Estonian Basketball League
The 2024–25 Latvian–Estonian Basketball League, known as Optibet Latvian-Estonian Basketball League for sponsorship reasons, was the seventh season of the Latvian–Estonian Basketball League, the premier basketball competition for men's teams in Latvia and Estonia. BK VEF Rīga, VEF Rīga won its second championship. Teams The number of participating teams was reduced from 16 to 15, due to BC Prometey and BC Tallinna Kalev, Tallinn Kalev/SNABB leaving the league. However, another team from Keila joined. There was also some interest from different Ukrainian and Israeli teams to participate. Latvian–Estonian Basketball League
The Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (, ); known as Optibet Latvian-Estonian Basketball League for sponsorship reasons, is the top-tier men's basketball league in Latvia and Estonia. The competition was introduced in 2018 and is organised by the Estonian Basketball Association and the Latvian Basketball Association. History Following the demise of the Baltic Basketball League, the LEBL was established in 2018 when the Latvijas Basketbola līga (LBL) and the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML) largely merged. In its 2018–19 Latvian–Estonian Basketball League, inaugural season, 15 teams participated in the league. After a Final Four is played to determine the winner of the league, there are playoffs to decide the national champions of Latvia and Estonia. Keila Korvpallikool (English: Keila Basketball School) is a basketball team based in Keila, Estonia. The team plays in the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League and the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). Their home arena is the Keila Health Center. History Keila Korvpallikool was founded in 2010. Keila's first team joined the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League for the 2022–23 season. BK Liepāja, known as Betsafe/Liepāja for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club in Liepāja, Latvia playing in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League and Latvian Basketball League. TalTech Basketball, also known as TalTech/ALEXELA for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball team based in Tallinn, Estonia. They are a part of the Tallinn University of Technology Sports Club. The team plays in the Estonian-Latvian Basketball League and the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML). Tallinna Kalev is a basketball team based in Tallinn, Estonia. The team was founded in 2002 as Pirita Palliklubi and played in the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML) from 2002 to 2024. History The team was founded in 2002 as Pirita Palliklubi (Pirita Ball Club), the same year they joined the Korvpalli Meistriliiga (KML), the top tier of Estonian basketball. BC Prometey (), also known as Prometey Slobozhanske, was a Ukrainian basketball club based in Slobozhanske and Kamianske. It played in the Ukrainian Basketball SuperLeague, the highest tier of basketball in Ukraine, from 2019 to 2022. From 2022 to 2024, the team was based in Riga and played in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. 2023–24 Latvian–Estonian Basketball League
The 2023–24 Latvian–Estonian Basketball League, known as Paf Latvian–Estonian Basketball League for sponsorship reasons, was the sixth season of the Latvian–Estonian Basketball League, the premier basketball competition for men's teams in Latvia and Estonia. Change of play-off format For the first time in league history play-off format changed. Quarterfinals are still to be played in the best-of-three series, however there will be no Final Four tournament anymore. Instead, semifinals are to be played in the best-of-three format. Bronze and gold medals will be played out in one game, host team being the one that was higher in the final standings of the regular season. Teams A total of 16 teams are participating in the 2023–24 edition of the league, including the newly established Rīgas Zeļļi. However Rakvere Tarvas left the league.
