2024–25 Iowa Hawkeyes Men's Basketball Team
The 2024–25 Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team represented the University of Iowa during the 2024–25 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led by head coach Fran McCaffery, in his 15th and final season with the Hawkeyes. The team played its home games at Carver–Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa as a member of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the season 17–15, 7–13 in Big Ten play, resulting in a tie five-way tie for 12th place. As the No. 15 seed in the Big Ten tournament, they upset Ohio State in the first round before losing to Illinois in the second round. On March 14, 2025, the school fired head coach Fran McCaffery after 15 seasons. He finished with a 297–207 overall record with Iowa. Fran McCaffery
Francis John McCaffery (born May 23, 1959) is an American college basketball coach who is the current men's basketball head coach at the University of Pennsylvania. He previously served as head coach of Lehigh University, UNC Greensboro, Siena, and Iowa, taking all four programs to the NCAA tournament at least once. McCaffery played college basketball for one season at Wake Forest before transferring to Penn. In his playing days, he acquired the nickname of "White Magic;" he was also referred to as the “Conductor” on the court. He began his college coaching career with a stint at Penn as an assistant coach. McCaffery became an assistant coach at Lehigh in 1983. He was the youngest head coach in Division I when he was promoted to head coach in 1985. Following his career at Lehigh, McCaffery spent 11 years as an assistant at Notre Dame. 2023–24 Ohio State Buckeyes Men's Basketball Team
The 2023–24 Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball team represented Ohio State University in the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led by head coach Chris Holtmann for the first 25 games of the season. The Buckeyes played their home games at Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio as members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished the regular season 19–12, 9–11 in Big Ten play to finish in a three-way tie for ninth place. As the No. 10 seed in the Big Ten tournament, they defeated Iowa in the second round before losing to Illinois in the quarterfinals. Butler Bulldogs Men's Basketball
The Butler Bulldogs men's basketball team represents Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. The school's team currently competes in the Big East Conference. They play their home games at Hinkle Fieldhouse. History Butler competed as part of the Horizon League since its founding, and played basketball in other regional conferences before that, including the Missouri Valley Conference. Patrick McCaffery
Patrick D. McCaffery (born March 20, 2000) is an American college basketball player for the Butler Bulldogs of the Big East Conference. He previously played for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Early life and high school career McCaffery was born in Greensboro, North Carolina where his father, Fran McCaffery was the head basketball coach at UNC Greensboro and spent his early childhood there until moving to Albany, New York after Fran became the head coach at Siena. He moved with his family to Iowa City, Iowa at age ten when his father was named the head coach at the University of Iowa. McCaffery was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when he was 13 years old.
