2024 Venezuelan Primera División Season
The 2024 Primera División season, officially Liga de Fútbol Profesional Venezolano or ''Liga FUTVE'', was the 68th season of the Venezuelan Primera División, the top-flight football league in Venezuela, and the 43rd season since the start of the professional era. The season began on 2 February 2024, being pushed back from its original date of 19 January 2024 to avoid a clash with the 2024 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament held in Venezuela, and ended on 8 December 2024. The defending champions Deportivo Táchira won a second league championship in a row and their eleventh overall after defeating Carabobo on kicks from the penalty mark in the season's grand final, following a 1–1 draw on aggregate. Venezuelan Primera División
The Primera División (; ), or Liga Venezolana (; ) is the top-flight professional football league of Venezuela. It was created in 1921 and turned professional in 1957. It is organized by the Federación Venezolana de Fútbol. Format Starting in the 2020 season, 20 teams play in a home-and-away round-robin tournament, with the top eight teams advancing to the semi-final stage. At the semi-final stage, the eight teams are divided into two groups of four teams each, facing the other teams in their group twice. The 2023 Primera División season, officially Liga de Fútbol Profesional Venezolano or ''Liga FUTVE'', was the 67th season of the Venezuelan Primera División, the top-flight football league in Venezuela, and the 42nd season since the start of the professional era. The season began on 3 February and ended on 25 November 2023. Deportivo Táchira won their tenth title at the end of the season, defeating Caracas on penalty kicks following a 1–1 draw after extra time in the final. Metropolitanos were the defending champions. Format The competition format for this season was announced by the Liga FUTVE on 31 January 2023. Similar to the previous season, the 15 participating clubs took part in a double round-robin first stage in which they played each other twice (once at home and once away) for a total of 28 games. Puerto Cabello
Puerto Cabello () is a city on the north coast of Venezuela. It is located in Carabobo State, about 210 km west of Caracas. As of 2011, the city had a population of around 182,400. Barinas State (, ) is one of the 23 states of Venezuela. The state capital is Barinas. Barinas State covers a total surface area of and had an estimated population of 970,689 in 2015. Toponymy The toponym "Barinas" is a variant of "varinas" (the name of an indigenous ethnic group that inhabited the Piedemonte before the arrival of the Spaniards); this may have a relationship with the name "Barima", given by the tunebos to the Santo Domingo river in the Aya myth. Deportivo Rayo Zuliano is a Venezuelan professional football club based in Maracaibo. Founded in 2005, the club play in the Venezuelan Primera División, hosting their home matches at the Estadio José Pachencho Romero. The 2019 Primera División season, officially Liga de Fútbol Profesional Venezolano or ''Liga FUTVE'', was the 38th professional season of Venezuela's top-flight football league. Zamora were the defending champions, but in the ''Torneo Apertura'' they were knocked out by Mineros in the quarter-finals and in the ''Torneo Clausura'' they failed to advance to the knockout stage. The champions were Caracas, who won the Torneo Clausura by defeating Deportivo Táchira in the final and then went on to beat Apertura winners Estudiantes de Mérida in the Serie Final on penalties to claim their twelfth league title.
