2024 United States Men's Curling Championship
The 2024 United States Men's Curling Championship was held from January 30 to February 4 at The Rink at American Dream in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The event was held in conjunction with the 2024 United States Women's Curling Championship. The winning John Shuster rink represented the United States at the 2024 World Men's Curling Championship at the KSS Sports Complex in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. Team Shuster also earned the first berth into the 2025 United States Olympic Curling Trials. Mark Fenner
Mark Fenner (born November 16, 1994) is an American curler from Bemidji, Minnesota. He is a two-time junior national champion and won his first United States Men's National Championship in 2021. Curling career In juniors, Fenner played second for skip Korey Dropkin, medalling four years in a row at the United States Junior Curling Championships. This included two gold medals in 2013 and 2016. The team also consisted of Tom Howell at third and Alex Fenson at lead, except for the 2014–15 season when Andrew Stopera played lead. At the 2013 World Junior Curling Championships in Sochi, Russia, they finished in seventh place with a record of 4–5. At their second trip to the World Juniors in 2016, they found more success, finishing the round-robin in first place with a record of 8–1. Andrew Stopera
Andrew Stopera (born September 30, 1997) is an American curler from Briarcliff Manor, New York. He currently throws third rocks and skips Team Korey Dropkin. He is a three-time United States Junior Champion and won the silver medal at the 2017 World Junior Championships. Career Stopera had a prolific junior curling career, playing in the United States Junior Championships seven straight years, 2013–2019, and medaling every time. The first two seasons of his junior career Stopera played third for Scott Dunnam's team. They earned bronze at the 2013 Junior Nationals and improved to silver at the 2014 Junior Nationals. Dunnam aged out of juniors after the 2013–14 season and Stopera joined the United States Curling Association's (USCA) Junior High Performance Program. Luc Violette (born March 8, 1999) is an American curler from Edmonds, Washington. He is a five-time United States Junior Champion and was a silver medalist at both the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics and the 2017 World Junior Championships. Curling career Violette started curling competitively at eleven years old. At his first three appearances at the United States Junior Curling Championships Violette played second for Jake Vukich's team, culminating winning the championship in 2014. Rich Ruohonen
Richard Ruohonen (born March 31, 1971) is an American curler from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. He is a two-time national champion and as such represented the United States at the 2008 and 2018 World Men's Curling Championships. Career Ruohonen made his first appearance at the United States Men's Championship in 1998. He won his first national championship in 2008, playing third for skip Craig Brown. As Team United States at the 2008 World Men's Championship, they finished the round-robin with 5–6 record, missing the playoffs and ending the tournament in seventh place. Ruohonen would lose the US Nationals final three times, in 2011, 2013, and 2017, before again earning the gold medal in 2018. Curl Mesabi Classic
The Curl Mesabi Classic (previously known as the Curl Mesabi Cash Spiel (2007, 2010-2011), Iron Trail Motors Shoot-Out @ Curl Mesabi (2012) and the Super One Shoot-out @ Curl Mesabi (2008)) is an annual bonspiel, or curling tournament, that takes place at Curl Mesabi's venue, the Range Recreation and Civic Center, in Eveleth, Minnesota. The tournament is held in a round-robin format. The men's tournament, started c. 2003, and joined the World Curling Tour in 2007. Women were allowed to participate in the men's tournament until 2011, when a separate women's tournament was created. The women's event was not held in 2013.
