2024 Penn State Nittany Lions Women's Volleyball Team
The 2024 Penn State Nittany Lions women's volleyball team represented Pennsylvania State University in the 2024 NCAA Division I women's volleyball season. The Penn State Nittany Lions women's volleyball team was led by 3rd-year head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley. They are members of the Big Ten Conference and play their home games at Rec Hall. Season recap In 2024, Schumacher-Cawley led the team to its best season in seven years, going 29–2 in regular season play and won a share of the Big Ten title after defeating Nebraska in its final conference match. It was the program's 18th Big Ten title overall, and first since 2017. She was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for her efforts. Katie Schumacher-Cawley
Katie Anne Schumacher-Cawley (born March 10, 1980) is an American former volleyball and basketball player who is the head coach of the Penn State women's volleyball team. After serving as the associate head coach since 2018, she was named head coach on January 10, 2022, following Russ Rose's retirement from coaching. In her third season as Penn State's head coach in 2024, Schumacher-Cawley made NCAA history by becoming the first female Division I women's volleyball coach to win an NCAA championship, the program's eighth title overall. The same season, she also led Penn State to the Big Ten Conference title, the program's first since 2017. Personal life Schumacher-Cawley is from Chicago, Illinois, growing up in Morgan Park. IC Catholic Prep (ICCP) is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Elmhurst, Illinois, and located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Joliet in Illinois. Elmhurst is a city in DuPage and Cook counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is a western suburb of Chicago. The population was 45,786 at the 2020 census. The Nebraska Cornhuskers women's volleyball team competes as part of NCAA Division I, representing the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in the Big Ten Conference. Nebraska played nearly four decades at the Nebraska Coliseum, NU Coliseum until moving to the larger Bob Devaney Sports Center in 2012. The program has been led by Dani Busboom Kelly since she succeeded longtime head coach John Cook (coach), John Cook in 2025. The Iowa State Cyclones women's volleyball team represents Iowa State University (ISU) and competes in the Big 12 Conference of NCAA Division I. The team is coached by Christy Johnson-Lynch, she is in her 18th year at Iowa State. The Cyclones play their home matches at Hilton Coliseum on Iowa State's campus. History Early years Iowa State first put together a volleyball squad in 1973 under coach Gloria Crosby. Initially just playing in regional tournaments and the occasional one-off match, they began participating in the brand new Big Eight tournament in 1976. Then in 1982 the Big Eight offered volleyball as a full sport including in-season conference play. The Cyclones struggled to put together competitive squads for most of their early years.
