2024 Ivy League Women's Basketball Tournament
The 2024 Ivy League Women's Basketball Tournament, popularly referred to as "Ivy Madness", was the postseason women's basketball tournament for the Ivy League of the 2023–24 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. It was held on March 15 and 16, 2024 at the Levien Gymnasium on the campus of Columbia University in New York City. The winner, the Princeton Tigers, received the Ivy League's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Seeds The top four teams in the Ivy League regular-season standings qualified for the tournament and will be seeded according to their records in conference play, resulting in a Shaughnessy playoff. Levien Gymnasium
Francis S. Levien Gymnasium is a 2,700-seat arena at Columbia University in Morningside Heights, Manhattan, New York City. Named for New York lawyer-industrialist Francis S. Levien (1905–95), it is home to the Columbia Men's and Women's Basketball teams and the Women's Volleyball team. It is also used for gym classes in between games. Part of the Marcellus Hartley Dodge Physical Fitness Center, Levien Gym opened in 1974 as a replacement for the old University Gym, which is still used for intramural sports. The playing court is named in honor of former Columbia basketball player and university trustee Jonathan D. Schiller. The Shaughnessy playoff system is a method of determining the champion of a sports league that is not in a divisional alignment. This format is also known as the Argus finals system. It involves the participation of the top four teams in the league standings in a single elimination tournament. While the first round of the playoffs involve the pairing of the first- and fourth-place teams in one contest (whether it be a single game or a series of games) and the second- and third-place teams in the other, a variant of the Shaughnessy playoffs would pair the first- and third-place teams in one semifinal round and the second- and fourth-place teams in the other. Ivy League Women's Basketball Tournament
The Ivy League women's basketball tournament is the conference tournament in basketball for the Ivy League, and is held alongside the Ivy League men's tournament at the same venue. The overall event is currently marketed as Ivy Madness. As with the men's tournament, the women's event is a single-elimination tournament involving the top four schools in the standings. The tournament format consists of two semifinal games on the first day (Saturday), with the No. 1 seed playing the No. 4 seed and the No. 2 seed playing the No. 3 seed, followed by the championship game played the next day (Sunday). The tournament winner receives the League's automatic bids to the NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament.
