2024 Ivy League Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2024 Ivy League men's basketball tournament, popularly referred to as "Ivy Madness", was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Ivy League of the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It was held March 16 and 17, 2024, at the Levien Gymnasium on the campus of Columbia University in New York City. The winner, 2023–24 Yale Bulldogs men's basketball team, Yale, received the Ivy League's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, 2024 NCAA Tournament. Seeds The top four teams in the Ivy League regular-season standings qualified for the tournament and were seeded according to their records in conference play, resulting in a Shaughnessy playoff system, Shaughnessy playoff. Levien Gymnasium
Francis S. Levien Gymnasium is a 2,700-seat arena at Columbia University in Morningside Heights, Manhattan, New York City. Named for New York lawyer-industrialist Francis S. Levien (1905–95), it is home to the Columbia Men's and Women's Basketball teams and the Women's Volleyball team. It is also used for gym classes in between games. Part of the Marcellus Hartley Dodge Physical Fitness Center, Levien Gym opened in 1974 as a replacement for the old University Gym, which is still used for intramural sports. The playing court is named in honor of former Columbia basketball player and university trustee Jonathan D. Schiller. 2023–24 Princeton Tigers Men's Basketball Team
The 2023–24 Princeton Tigers men's basketball team represented Princeton University during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Ivy League Men's Basketball Tournament
The Ivy League men's basketball tournament is the postseason conference tournament in men's basketball for the Ivy League. It was first held in 2017, and is held alongside the Ivy League women's basketball tournament, Ivy women's tournament, also introduced in 2017, at the same venue. The overall event is currently marketed as Ivy Madness. The Ivy League was the last NCAA Division I conference without a postseason tournament. The tournament follows a single-elimination format that involves the top four schools in the standings at the end of the regular season. Two semifinal games are held on the first day (Saturday) with the No. 1 seed playing the No. 4 seed and the No. 2 seed playing the No. 3 seed, followed by the championship game played the next day (Sunday). The 2023–24 Ivy League men's basketball season marked the continuation of the annual tradition of competitive basketball among Ivy League members. The tradition began when the league was formed during the 1956–57 season and its history extends to the predecessor Eastern Intercollegiate Basketball League, which was formed in 1902. Princeton earned the league title after finishing the regular season a League-best 12–2. However, in the Ivy League tournament, Princeton lost to Brown, 90–81. Yale, who had defeated Cornell 69–57 in the other leg of the tournament, then defeated Brown in a last-second comeback win, 62–61, earning the league's bid to the 2024 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.
