2024 Giro D'Italia Women
The 2024 Giro d'Italia Women was the 35th edition of the Giro d'Italia Women, a women's road cycling stage race in Italy. The race took place from 7 to 14 July and was the 21st event of the 2024 UCI Women's World Tour calendar. The race was organised by RCS Sport, which also organised the men's Giro d'Italia. The race was won by Italian rider Elisa Longo Borghini of Lidl–Trek, the first Italian winner since 2008. Teams 22 teams participated in the race. Each team started with seven riders. All 15 UCI Women's WorldTeams were automatically invited. They were joined by five UCI Women's Continental Teams selected by organisers RCS Sport. The two best UCI Women's Continental Teams of the 2023 season also gained automatic invitations. The teams were announced on 7 June 2024. 2024 UCI Women's World Tour
The 2024 UCI Women's World Tour was a competition that included twenty-seven road bicycle racing, road cycling events throughout the 2024 in women's road cycling, 2024 women's cycling season. It was be the ninth edition of the UCI Women's World Tour, the ranking system launched by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in 2016. The competition began with the 2024 Women's Tour Down Under, Women's Tour Down Under from 12 to 14 January, and finished with the Tour of Guangxi on 20 October. Belgian rider Lotte Kopecky () won the individual classification with 4596 points, after a close battle with her teammate Demi Vollering throughout the season. Kopecky had six overall victories, including 2024 Strade Bianche Donne, Strade Bianche Donne and 2024 Paris–Roubaix Femmes, Paris–Roubaix Femmes. An individual time trial (ITT) is a road bicycle race in which cyclists race alone against the clock (in French: ''contre la montre'' – literally "against the watch", in Italian: ''tappa a cronometro'' "stopwatch stage"). Alfonsina Strada
Alfonsina Strada (16 March 1891 – 13 September 1959) was an Italian cyclist, the only woman to have ridden one of cycling's three major stage races. She started in the Giro d'Italia in 1924 when the organisers mistook her for a man. Newspapers called her ''The Devil in a dress''. Her racing career included an Italian record which lasted 26 years. She died aged 69 as she propped up her motorcycle after riding it to a bicycle race. Early life Born Alfonsina Morini at Castelfranco Emilia, near Modena, she was the daughter of a peasant family. Her father was a day labourer, her mother a wet nurse. One account says her house was a windowless shack through which chickens ran; another says she was one of 24 living there. Blockhaus (peak)
The Maiella (or Majella) is a massif in the Central Apennines, in Abruzzo, central Italy. Geography The mountain is located at the boundary between the provinces of Chieti, Pescara and L'Aquila. The highest peak is Monte Amaro at 2,793 m, the second-highest of the entire Apennine range. The massif is at the centre of the Maiella National Park. The Maiella is formed by a compact limestone massif, on which summit are the highest peaks in the group: Monte Amaro 2,793 m, Monte Acquaviva 2,737 m, Monte Focalone 2,676 m, Monte Rotondo 2,656 m, Monte Macellaro 2,646 m, Pesco Falcone 2,546 m, Cima delle Murelle 2,598 m.
