2024 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League
The 2024 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League was the sixth edition of the FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League, an annual women's international volleyball tournament. The competition was held from 14 May to 23 June 2024 and the final round took place at Indoor Stadium Huamark, Bangkok, Thailand. Following the results of the 2023 Nations League and the 2023 Challenger Cup, Croatia were replaced by debutants France in this edition. Italy claimed their second VNL title after defeating Japan in a four-set final. Japan took the silver medal, which is their best result in this tournament. Poland retained the bronze medal after defeating Brazil in a five-set 3rd place match. Paola Egonu of Italy named as the MVP of the tournament. Japan Women's National Volleyball Team
The Japan women's national volleyball team (Hinotori Nippon, 火の鳥NIPPON), or ''All-Japan women's volleyball team'', is currently ranked 10th in the world by FIVB. The new head coach is Masayoshi Manabe. One of their greatest successes was at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, when they defeated the heavily favored Soviet Union on the way to the gold medal. Japan was qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics by winning the Women's Olympic Qualifier that was held from 8 May to 16 May in Tokyo, Japan. In Athens, Greece the team took fifth place in the overall-rankings. The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) is the international governing body for the sports of volleyball in Northern America, Central America, and the Caribbean. 2022 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League
The 2022 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League was the fourth edition of the FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League, an annual women's international volleyball tournament. The competition was held from 31 May to 17 July 2022, and the final round took place in Ankara Arena, Ankara Turkey. Belgium were the last placed challenger team after the preliminary round and were replaced by 2022 Challenger Cup winners Croatia in the 2023 edition. Italy claimed their first VNL medal and title after defeating Brazil in straight sets. Brazil took their third silver medal, consecutively. The 2021 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League was the third edition of the FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League, an annual women's international volleyball tournament. The 2021 version of VNL was scheduled to start earlier than the previous edition due to the 2020 Summer Olympics in July. The competition was held in between May and June 2021, and the final round took place in Rimini Fiera, Rimini, Italy. The 2018 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League was the inaugural edition of the FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League, a new annual international women's volleyball tournament contested by 16 national teams that replaced the former World Grand Prix in the international calendar. The competition was held between May and July 2018, and the final round took place in the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre, Nanjing, China. The Confederación Sudamericana de Voleibol (CSV) ( Portuguese: ) is the continental governing body for the sports of volleyball in South America. Its headquarters is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Profile The CSV's origins are still under dispute. Some argue it was founded in Buenos Aires, Argentina on February 12, 1946; some, that it was founded in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on July 3 of the same year. Either way, it was formed even before the FIVB itself, and stands as the oldest of all volleyball continental confederations. FIVB Senior World Rankings
The FIVB Senior World Rankings is a ranking system for men's and women's national teams in volleyball. The teams of the member nations of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), volleyball's world governing body, are ranked based on their game results with the most successful teams being ranked highest. A points system is used, with points being awarded based on the results of all FIVB-recognised full international matches. The rankings are used in international competitions to define the seeded teams and arrange them in pools. Specific procedures for seeding and pooling are established by the FIVB in each competition's formula, but the method usually employed is the serpentine system. The ranking system has been revamped in 2020, responding to criticism that the preceding calculation method did not effectively reflect the relative strengths of the national teams. The 2024 FIVB Women's Volleyball Challenger Cup was the fifth and last edition of the FIVB Women's Volleyball Challenger Cup, an annual women's international volleyball tournament contested by eight national teams that acted as a qualifier for the FIVB Women's Volleyball Nations League. The tournament was held at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila, the Philippines, between 4 and 7 July 2024. The host Philippines were the only debutants in this edition. The Czech Republic won the title and earned the right to participate in the 2025 Nations League after defeating Puerto Rico in the final.
