2024 Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
The 2024 Big Ten Conference men's ice hockey tournament was the tenth tournament in conference history. It was played between March 8 and March 23, 2024, on-campus locations. As the tournament winner, Michigan State earned the Big Ten's automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey tournament. Format The tournament featured a format with all games taking place on the campus of the higher-seeded teams. The tournament will open with three best-of-three quarterfinal series, as the second, third and fourth-seeded teams each hosting a series. The top-seeded team will have a bye to the single-elimination semifinals. The highest-seeded team remaining after the semifinals will host the championship game. 2023–24 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season began on October 6, 2023, and concluded with the NCAA championship on April 13, 2024. This was the 76th season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship is being held, and is US college hockey's 130th year overall. Conference realignment After Robert Morris suspended its program in the summer of 2021, a successful fundraising campaign allowed the team to return for this season. The program rejoined Atlantic Hockey, bringing the number of conference members back up to 11. The same summer, Augustana University proceeded with plans to promote its athletic department to Division I. In concert with that decision, the school finalized the addition of a new ice hockey program that would begin with this season. Garrett Schifsky (born April 8, 2003) is an American college ice hockey player for the University of Michigan of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Early life Schifsky attended Andover High School in Andover, Minnesota where he played ice hockey for three years, and helped lead the Huskies to consecutive section 7AA hockey championships and state finalists appearances in 2020 and 2021. Playing career Junior Schifsky spent two seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks. During the 2020–21 season, he recorded two goals in eight games. On November 17, 2022, he was named an assistant captain for the 2021–22 season. On December 29, 2022, he was selected to compete at the 2023 BioSteel All-American Game. Matthew Basgall (born August 16, 2002) is an American college ice hockey defenseman for Michigan State of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Playing career Junior Basgall began his career with the Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he recorded nine goals and 37 assists in 125 games in four seasons. On February 24, 2022, he was traded to the Tri-City Storm in exchange for Nate Benoit.
