2024 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's Super-G
The women's super-G in the 2024 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup consisted of nine events, including the final. One super-G on 10 December in St. Moritz was canceled, but it was rescheduled as a second super-G in Zauchensee on 12 January. As discussed in the season summary below, three more cancellations took place during February, reducing the season to eight races, but one downhill was then converted to a super-G to produce the final total of nine. Season summary The first event in this discipline, which did not take place until 8 December 2023 in St. Moritz, Switzerland, was easily won by three-time defending downhill champion Sofia Goggia, who triumphed by almost a second over the field. Super-G
Super giant slalom, or super-G, is a racing discipline of alpine skiing. Along with the faster downhill, it is regarded as a "speed" event, in contrast to the technical events giant slalom and slalom. It debuted as an official World Cup event during the 1983 season and was added to the official schedule of the World Championships in 1987 and the Winter Olympics in 1988. Much like downhill, a super-G course consists of widely set gates that racers must pass through. The course is set so that skiers must turn more than in downhill, though the speeds are still much higher than in giant slalom (hence the name). Each athlete only has one run to clock the best time. In the Olympics, super-G courses are usually set on the same slopes as the downhill, but with a lower starting point. Katja Seizinger
Katja Seizinger (; born 10 May 1972) is a German former World Cup alpine ski racing champion. She is her country's most successful alpine skier. Biography Born in Datteln, North Rhine-Westphalia, Seizinger won three Olympic gold and two bronze medals, and won eleven World Cup season titles: two overall, four downhill, and five Super-G. She was a three-time winner of Germany's sportswoman of the year award. With Olympic downhill victories in 1994 and 1998, she was the first to win consecutive Olympic gold medals in the same alpine speed event, and also the first woman to successfully defend an Olympic alpine title. Jasmine Flury (born 16 September 1993) is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer, specializing in the speed events of Downhill Flury won gold in downhill at the 2023 World Championships. Career Suter made her World Cup debut at age 17 in November 2011, and won season titles in downhill and super-G in 2020. The 2024 World Junior Alpine Skiing Championships were held at Haute-Savoie in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, France from 30 January to 3 February 2024. It was the sixth time that a World Junior Alpine Skiing Championship was held in France after the editions in 1982, 1998, 1999, 2003 and 2010.
