2024 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Men's Giant Slalom
The men's giant slalom in the 2024 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup consisted of ten events, including the final. The original schedule included 12 events, but two were canceled during the season. Switzerland's Marco Odermatt, the two-time defending champion. not only won his third straight championship but completely dominated, winning 9 of the 10 races in the discipline. Season summary The first giant slalom of the season, scheduled as usual on the Rettenbach glacier in Sölden, Austria in October, had to be cancelled due to high winds, although 47 skiers had already completed their first run. The cancelled race was subsequently rescheduled for Aspen on 1 March 2024. Giant Slalom
Giant slalom (GS) is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding competitive discipline. It involves racing between sets of poles ("gates") spaced at a greater distance from each other than in Slalom skiing, slalom but less than in Super-G. Giant slalom and slalom make up the technical events in alpine ski racing. This category separates them from the speed events of Super-G and Downhill (ski competition), downhill. The technical events are normally composed of two runs, held on different courses on the same ski run. Course The vertical drop for a GS course must be for men, and for women. The number of gates in this event is 56–70 for men and 46–58 for women. The number of direction changes in a GS course equals 11–15% of the vertical drop of the course in metres, 13–18% for children. Kranjska Gora Ski Resort is Slovenia's oldest ski resort at Kranjska Gora, Upper Carniola, opened in 1948. Aspen Mountain (ski Area)
Aspen Mountain (often called by its former name of Ajax among locals) is a ski area in the western United States, located in Pitkin County, Colorado, just outside and above the city of Aspen. Aspen Mountain forms the end of Richmond Ridge, a long ridge that extends south at approximately to join the main spine of the Elk Mountains. Founded in 1946 by Walter Paepcke, Aspen was the first ski area venture of the Aspen Skiing Company. It is one of four adjacent ski areas operated by the company as part of the Aspen/Snowmass complex. Palisades Tahoe is a ski resort in the western United States, located in Olympic Valley, California, northwest of Tahoe City in the Sierra Nevada range. Bansko
Bansko ( ) is a town in southwestern Bulgaria, located in Blagoevgrad Oblast near the city of Razlog. Planai is a ski area in central Austria, the main mountain in the Schladming area in Styria. It is one of four adjoining mountains, which includes Hauser Kaibling, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm (Styria), Reiteralm, connected under the name Schladminger 4-Berge-Schaukel. It is not regarded as a single mountain and all text from the official website cites the total amount of pistes. Loïc Meillard (; born 29 October 1996) is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer and specializes in the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Born in Neuchâtel, Meillard made his World Cup debut in January 2015; his younger sister Mélanie is also a World Cup alpine racer. Career Meillard made his World Cup debut at age 18 in the Adelboden giant slalom in January 2015. The 13th World Cup season began in December 1978 in Austria and concluded in March 1979 in Japan. The overall winners were Peter Lüscher of Switzerland, his first overall win, and Annemarie Moser-Pröll of Austria, her sixth (which remained the record until 2017–18, when Austria's Marcel Hirscher won his seventh overall title). The 2024 World Junior Alpine Skiing Championships were held at Haute-Savoie in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, France from 30 January to 3 February 2024. It was the sixth time that a World Junior Alpine Skiing Championship was held in France after the editions in 1982, 1998, 1999, 2003 and 2010.
