2024–25 Providence Friars Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 2024–25 Providence Friars Men's ice hockey season was the 74th season of play for the program and 41st in Hockey East. The Friars represented Providence College in the 2024–25 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season, played their home games at Schneider Arena and were coached by Nate Leaman in his 14th season. Season While Providence entered the season with its top five scorers returning, the Friars offense wasn't particularly strong to begin with. More importantly, however, was that starting goaltender Philip Svedebäck was back and he would now be backed up by Zachary Borgiel, who had previously been the starter for Merrimack. With the defense returning three of its top four blueliners, Providence appeared to have a solid foundation for the year and they demonstrated as much with a very strong start. The Providence Friars men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I (NCAA), Division I college ice hockey program that represents Providence College. A member of Hockey East, the Friars have been coached by Nate Leaman since 2011. Leaman led the friars to a national championship in 2015. Unfortunately it would be over 25 years before the Friars could get their next win. Brown–Providence Men's Ice Hockey Rivalry
The Brown–Providence men's ice hockey rivalry is a college ice hockey College rivalry#United States, rivalry between the Brown Bears men's ice hockey and Providence Friars men's ice hockey programs. The first meeting between the two occurred on 1 March 1927 but wasn't played annually until 1952. History While Brown University, Brown had first played varsity ice hockey as far back as the 19th century, the team did not have any local facility and was forced to suspend operations for 20 years. In 1926, the Rhode Island Auditorium was built and enable the school to restart its program. The same year, Providence College began its ice hockey team, however, the new team lasted just one year before being mothballed. Wheeling Nailers
The Wheeling Nailers are a professional ECHL ice hockey team based in Wheeling, West Virginia. They are the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. Alaska Nanooks Men's Ice Hockey
The Alaska Nanooks men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Nanooks are an independent program. They play at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks, Alaska. History Early history (1925–1973) Varsity hockey at Alaska-Fairbanks began in 1925. The team played four games during the inaugural 1925–26 season and finished the season with a 3–1–0 record despite having no coach. The program returned in 1932 and for three additional seasons the team operated without a coach as an independent collegiate program. Alfred Bastress joined the Nanooks in 1937 and became the program's first head coach. Bastress led the Nanooks for four seasons. The Clarkson Golden Knights men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I (NCAA), Division I college ice hockey program that represents Clarkson University. The Golden Knights have been a member of ECAC Hockey since 1962, and play their home games at Cheel Arena in Potsdam, New York. The Denver Pioneers men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of Denver. They play at Magness Arena in Denver, Colorado. The Pioneers are a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).
