2023–24 Youngstown State Penguins Men's Basketball Team
The 2023–24 Youngstown State Penguins men's basketball team represented Youngstown State University during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Penguins, led by seventh-year head coach Jerrod Calhoun, played their home games at the Beeghly Center located in Youngstown, Ohio as members of the Horizon League. Previous season The Penguins finished the 2022–23 season 23–8, 15–5 in Horizon League play to finish as Horizon League regular season champions. They defeated Detroit Mercy in the quarterfinal round of the Horizon League tournament, before suffering an upset loss to eventual tournament winners Northern Kentucky in the semifinals. As a regular season champion who didn't win their conference tournament, the Penguins received an automatic bid to play in the NIT, where they lost to Oklahoma State in the first round. Jerrod Calhoun
Jerrod Frank Calhoun (born October 17, 1981) is an American basketball coach and former guard who is the head coach of the Utah State Aggies men's basketball team. He previously served as the head coach at Youngstown State University from 2017 to 2024 and Fairmont State University from 2012 to 2017. He played college basketball at Cleveland State from 2001 to 2003. Playing career A standout basketball player at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School in Cleveland, Ohio, Calhoun attended Cleveland State University and played two seasons under Rollie Massimino. He moved on to Cincinnati and acted as a student assistant under Bob Huggins until his graduation in 2004. Coaching career Calhoun's first job post graduation was as an assistant at Walsh University where he was part of the Cavaliers' NAIA national championship squad in 2005. The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights men's basketball is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's basketball program that represents Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack, New Jersey. Northern Kentucky Norse Men's Basketball
The Northern Kentucky Norse men's basketball team represents Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky, United States. The school's athletic program began a transition to NCAA Division I in the 2012–13 school year. For the first three seasons of the transition (through 2014–15), it was a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. In the final season of the transition in 2015–16, the Norse joined the Horizon League. The Norse were coached by John Brannen until April 14, 2019, when he left to take a job with the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. Friends Select School (FSS) is a college-preparatory, Quaker school for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade located at 1651 Benjamin Franklin Parkway at the intersection of Cherry and N. 17th Streets in Center City Philadelphia.
