2023–24 UEFA Europa League
The 2023–24 UEFA Europa League was the 53rd season of Europe's secondary club football tournament organised by UEFA, and the 15th season since it was renamed from the UEFA Cup to the UEFA Europa League. The final was played at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, with Italian club Atalanta defeating German club Bayer Leverkusen 3–0 to win their first European title. Atalanta became the first Italian team to win the competition since Parma in 1999. Their win also denied Leverkusen's bid to win a continental treble and complete the entire season unbeaten across all competitions. As winners of the tournament, Atalanta automatically qualified for the 2024–25 UEFA Champions League league stage and also earned the right to play against Real Madrid, the winners of the 2023–24 UEFA Champions League, in the 2024 UEFA Super Cup. Aviva Stadium
Aviva Stadium, also known as Lansdowne Road (, ) or Dublin Arena (during UEFA competitions), is a List of stadiums in Ireland by capacity, sports stadium located in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Ireland, with a capacity for 51,711 spectators (all seated). It is built on the site of the former Lansdowne Road, Lansdowne Road Stadium, which was demolished in 2007, and replaced it as home to its chief tenants: the Ireland national rugby union team, Irish rugby union team and the Republic of Ireland national football team, Republic of Ireland football team. The 2023–24 UEFA Europa League knockout phase began on 15 February with the knockout round play-offs and ended on 22 May 2024 with the final at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, to decide the champions of the 2023–24 UEFA Europa League. The 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League was the second season of the UEFA Europa Conference League, Europe's tertiary club football tournament organised by UEFA. The final was played at Fortuna Arena in Prague, Czech Republic. It was won by West Ham United, who defeated Fiorentina 2–1, and qualified for the 2023–24 UEFA Europa League group stage as a result. UEFA Coefficient
In European football, the UEFA coefficients are statistics based in weighted arithmetic means used for ranking and seeding teams in club and international competitions. Introduced in 1979 for men's football tournaments (country rankings only), and after applied in women's football and futsal, the coefficients are calculated by UEFA, who administer football within Europe, and the Asian parts of some transcontinental countries. The confederation publishes three types of rankings: one analysing a single season, a five-year span, and a ten-year span. The Liechtenstein Football Association (LFA; ) is the governing body of football in Liechtenstein. It was established on 28 April 1934, and became affiliated to UEFA on 22 May 1974. The association organizes the Liechtenstein national football team and the Liechtenstein Football Cup. Because Liechtenstein has fewer than 8 (only 7 not counting reserves) active teams, it is the only UEFA member without its own national league. The 2023–24 UEFA Champions League group stage began on 19 September 2023 and ended on 13 December 2023. A total of 32 teams competed in the group stage to decide the 16 places in the knockout phase of the 2023–24 UEFA Champions League. Union Berlin and Antwerp made their debut appearance in the group stage. This was the Belgian club's first appearance in the European Cup since their first round exit in the 1957–58 season, and the first ever for the German side. Swiss-system Tournament
A Swiss-system tournament is a non-eliminating tournament format that features a fixed number of rounds of competition, but considerably fewer than for a round-robin tournament; thus each competitor (team or individual) does not play all the other competitors. Competitors meet one-on-one in each round and are paired using a set of rules designed to ensure that each competitor plays opponents with a similar running score, but does not play the same opponent more than once. The winner is the competitor with the highest aggregate points earned in all rounds. With an even number of participants, all competitors play in each round.
