2023–24 UCLA Bruins Women's Basketball Team
The 2023–24 UCLA Bruins women's basketball team represented the University of California, Los Angeles during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Bruins were led by 13th-year head coach Cori Close. They played their home games at Pauley Pavilion and competed as members of the Pac-12 Conference. This was also the last season for UCLA played in the Pac-12 Conference before moving to the Big Ten Conference on August 1, 2024. Prior to the season, the Bruins secured the signing of highly touted center Lauren Betts, the former top-ranked high school recruit in the country who was transferring to UCLA from conference rival Stanford after one season in which she received limited playing time. Going into the Cayman Islands classic, the Bruins were ranked Number 2 in the AP poll, the highest in program history. They defeated the Paige Bueckers-led UConn Huskies in that tournament. Cori Close
Cori Rashel Close (born July 29, 1971) is an American college basketball coach who has served as the head women's basketball coach for the UCLA Bruins since 2011. Before UCLA, she spent time as an assistant coach at Florida State University and her alma mater, UC Santa Barbara. She was a star player for the UCSB Gauchos, serving as a team captain during the 1992 and 1993 seasons while leading them to the NCAA tournament both years. The 2022–23 Washington State Cougars women's basketball team represented Washington State University during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Cougars were led by fifth-year head coach Kamie Ethridge and they played their home games at Beasley Coliseum as members of the Pac-12 Conference. Previous season In 2021–22, the Cougars finished with an overall record of 19–11, and finished conference play with a 11–6 record. As the #3 seed in the tournament, the Cougars lost to the #6 seed Utah in the quarterfinals. The Cougars received an at-large bid to the 2022 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament and the #8 seed in the Bridgeport Regional.
