2023–24 SMU Mustangs Men's Basketball Team
The 2023–24 SMU Mustangs men's basketball team represented Southern Methodist University during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mustangs were led by second-year head coach Rob Lanier and played their home games at Moody Coliseum on their campus in University Park, Texas as members of the American Athletic Conference (The American). They finished the season 20–13, 11–7 in AAC play to finish in a tie for fifth place. As the No. 6 seed in the AAC tournament, they lost to Temple in the second round. On March 21, 2024, the school fired head coach Rob Lanier after two seasons. On April 1, the school named USC head coach Andy Enfield the team's new head coach. The season was SMU's final season in the AAC, as the university joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in July 2024. Rob Lanier
Robert A. Lanier (born July 24, 1968) is an American college basketball coach who currently serves as the head coach for the Rice Owls. Previously, he was the head coach at Southern Methodist University. He also served as the head coach at Georgia State from 2019 to 2022 and Siena from 2001 to 2005. Playing career Lanier played his college basketball at St. Bonaventure, where he scored 868 career points and was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference All-Freshman Team. Coaching career Lanier's first coaching stop was at Niagara as an assistant for two seasons before moving back to an assistant coaching spot at his alma mater. After a two-year stop at Rutgers, Lanier joined Rick Barnes's staff at Texas. 2023 American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2023 American Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament was held March 9–12, 2023, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. All games of the tournament were televised by ESPN Inc. The winner of the tournament, the Memphis Tigers, received the conference's automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA tournament. Seeds Teams were seeded by conference record. The top five teams received byes to the quarterfinals. Tiebreakers were applied as needed to properly seed the teams. Butler Bulldogs Men's Basketball
The Butler Bulldogs men's basketball team represents Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. The school's team currently competes in the Big East Conference. They play their home games at Hinkle Fieldhouse. History Butler competed as part of the Horizon League since its founding, and played basketball in other regional conferences before that, including the Missouri Valley Conference. In 2012 they left the Horizon League for the Atlantic 10 and the year after, moved to the Big East. Despite having played in a mid-major conference, Butler rose to national prominence in the late 1990s. Ashburn is a unincorporated settlement and census-designated place (CDP) in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. Chuck Harris (basketball)
Charles Harris Jr. (born September 21, 2001) is an American college basketball player for the SMU Mustangs of the Atlantic Coast Conference. He previously played for the Butler Bulldogs. High school career Harris played basketball for Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C. for four years under coach Steve Turner. He helped his team win two Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and D.C. State Athletic Association titles. As a senior, Harris averaged 12 points, four rebounds and four assists per game. The Tennessee Volunteers men's basketball team is the collegiate men's basketball program for the University of Tennessee–Knoxville. Zachary Markeith Nutall (born December 16, 1999) is an American professional basketball player for Beijing Ducks of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). In college he played for Sam Houston State then SMU, and was named the 2021 Southland Conference Player of the Year. High school career Nutall attended Bryan High School in Bryan, Texas, where he was named District 18-5A Offensive MVP as a senior. College career As a freshman at Sam Houston State, Nutall averaged 6.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in a reserve role. He averaged 15.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in his sophomore season, earning First Team All- Southland honors.
