2023–24 PWHL Minnesota Season
The 2023–24 PWHL Minnesota season was the team's inaugural season as a member of the newly created Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). They played their home games at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota. PWHL Minnesota clinched the league's final playoff spot on the last day of the regular season, and regular season-champion PWHL Toronto selected Minnesota as its semifinal opponent. Minnesota went on to defeat Toronto in a five-game series, winning three straight games after losing the first two. Minnesota advanced to the PWHL Finals, where they faced PWHL Boston. Minnesota prevailed in another five-game series, winning the inaugural Walter Cup championship. Minnesota's first overall draft pick from the 2023 PWHL draft, Taylor Heise, led the playoffs in scoring and was voted the most valuable player of the playoffs. Natalie Darwitz
Natalie Rose Darwitz (born October 13, 1983) is an American ice hockey executive, coach, and retired player, most recently serving as general manager of PWHL Minnesota in the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). Darwitz was a member of the US national ice hockey team for more than a decade and served as team captain for several seasons, beginning with the 2007–08 season. Her decorated playing career was highlighted by three world championship gold medals, two Olympic silver medals, and an Olympic bronze medal. Darwitz was inducted into both the Hockey Hall of Fame and IIHF Hall of Fame in 2024. Career biography Darwitz began skating at the age of five, and attended Eagan High School. Minnesota Golden Gophers
The Minnesota Golden Gophers (commonly shortened to Gophers) are the college athletics, college sports teams of the University of Minnesota. The university fields a total of 21 (9 men's, 12 women's) teams in both men's and women's sports and competes in the Big Ten Conference. The Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey, Gophers women's ice hockey team is a six-time National Collegiate women's ice hockey championship, NCAA champion and seven-time national champion. Taylor Heise
Taylor Heise (born March 17, 2000) is an American professional ice hockey forward for the Minnesota Frost of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She played college ice hockey at Minnesota where she won the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2022. She is also a member of the United States national team. She was drafted first overall in the 2023 PWHL Draft. Early life Heise attended Red Wing High School where she was a four-time USA Today American Family Insurance All-USA honoree.
