2023–24 Maine Black Bears Men's Basketball Team
The 2023–24 Maine Black Bears men's basketball team represented the University of Maine in the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Black Bears, led by second-year head coach Chris Markwood, played their home games at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine, with some games at Memorial Gymnasium in Orono, Maine, as members of the America East Conference. Previous season The Black Bears finished the 2022–23 season 13–17, 7–9 in America East play, to finish in seventh place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the America East Tournament to UMass Lowell. Chris Markwood
Chris Markwood (born December 22, 1981) is an American basketball coach who is the current head coach of the Maine Black Bears men's basketball team. Playing career Markwood played high school basketball at South Portland High School where he was named Maine's Gatorade Player of the Year in 2000. He began his college career at Notre Dame for two seasons before transferring to Maine for his final two seasons, where he was a team captain. Coaching career After graduation, Markwood started his coaching career at his alma mater, assisting the Black Bears under Ted Woodward for six seasons before joining the staff at Vermont where he was part of the Catamounts' 2012 NCAA tournament appearance. He'd then move on to Northeastern from 2014 to 2021, where he was part of two NCAA appearances in 2015 and 2019 as well as a CAA regular season and tournament title in 2015. Edward Little High School
Edward Little High School is a public high school in Auburn, Maine, United States. The school was established in 1835 as Lewiston Falls Academy after philanthropist Edward Little donated and considerable money to the academy, which was named in his honor. The school is now situated on a tract of land overlooking the city from the top of Goff Hill in Auburn Heights. History 19th century The school was first commissioned by the Maine State Legislature as Lewiston Falls Academy. Little contributed numerous resources to the school, including land and money. It was renamed to the Edward Little Institute in September 1849. When the City of Auburn was given control over the school in April 1874, it came with the condition that the school always be named in honor of Edward Little.
