2023–24 Eastern Illinois Panthers Men's Basketball Team
The 2023–24 Eastern Illinois Panthers men's basketball team represented Eastern Illinois University during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Panthers, led by third-year head coach Marty Simmons, played their home games at the newly renamed Groniger Arena in Charleston, Illinois as members of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). Previous season The Panthers finished the 2022–23 9–22, 5–13 in OVC play, to finish in last place. They failed to qualify for the OVC tournament. Marty Simmons
Martin Ray Simmons (born February 21, 1965) is an American basketball coach and former player. He is the head men's basketball coach at Eastern Illinois University, a position he has held since 2021. Simmons served as the head men's basketball coach at Wartburg College from 1996 to 1997, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville from 2002 to 2007, and the University of Evansville from 2007 to 2018. As a high school player, Simmons was named Illinois Mr. Basketball in 1983. He played college basketball at Indiana University Bloomington and Evansville. High school Simmons was born and raised in Lawrenceville, Illinois, and attended Lawrenceville High School, graduating in 1983. Rend Lake College (RLC) is a public community college in Ina, Illinois. It is part of the Illinois Community College System (ICCS). History Rend Lake College was founded in 1955 as Mt. Vernon Community College to allow students from High School District No. 201 the opportunity to receive post-secondary education similar to university curriculum. The Illinois Fighting Illini men's basketball team is an NCAA Division I college basketball team competing in the Big Ten Conference, that represent the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The Defiance College is a private college located in Defiance, Ohio, United States. Affiliated with the United Church of Christ, the campus includes eighteen buildings and access to the Thoreau Wildlife Sanctuary.
