2023 World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series – Women's Tour
The 2023 Challenger Series for women's rugby sevens teams was the second season of the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series, second-tier circuit that allowed a promotion pathway to the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series, World Rugby Sevens Series. The women's challenger tour had twelve national teams competing and was played as two tournaments on 20–22 and 28–30 April 2023 in Stellenbosch, South Africa, with the winner gaining direct entry to the 2023–24 World Rugby Sevens series. World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series
The World Rugby Sevens Challenger (formerly the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series) is an annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for national teams run by World Rugby that includes men's and women's events. Sponsored by banking group HSBC, it is the second tier of competition below the SVNS. Teams on the respective men's and women's tours of the Challenger Series compete for promotion to the first tier as a core team. The inaugural men's tour for the Challenger Series in 2020 featured events in Chile and Uruguay. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, World Rugby postponed the final event in Hong Kong until October 2020. The women's tournament for the Challenger Series in the 2020 season was announced as a stand-alone event hosted in South Africa. Elizabetha "Libbie" Magdalena Janse van Rensburg (born 28 September 1994) is a South African rugby union and sevens player. Rugby career 2021–22 Janse van Rensburg made her debut for the Springbok Women in 2021. In a test match against Namibia, she scored two tries and added 14 conversions for a personal contribution of 38 points – a new Test record for the Springbok Women. In 2022 she was selected for the 2021 World Cup squad. Marlize De Bruin
Marlize de Bruin (born 11 November 1994) is a South African sportswomen. As a netball player, she played for UP-Tuks in Varsity Netball and for Gauteng Jaguars in the Premier Netball League. She also represented the South Africa national netball team at the 2016 Fast5 Netball World Series. Zintle Mpupha (born 25 December 1993) is a South African women's rugby union player and cricketer from Middledrift, Eastern Cape, South Africa. She played cricket for Border cricket team and rugby for Border Bulldogs as well as the South Africa women's national rugby sevens team as a fly half. Rugby Mpupha played rugby for Border Bulldogs. Nadine Roos (born 9 May 1996) is a South African rugby union and sevens player. Background Roos was abandoned by her mother at a pre-school crèche in South Africa, her grandmother traveled 160 miles in order to look after her. Mathrin Simmers (born 3 March 1988) is a South African rugby sevens player. Rugby career Simmers competed for South Africa at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.
