2023 World Athletics Championships – Men's Discus Throw
The men's discus throw at the 2023 World Athletics Championships was held at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest on 19 and 21 August 2023. Summary Nobody in the field was able to make the 66.50m automatic qualifier. In the first round of the final, Andrius Gudžius was the first over 65 with a 65.95m. The next thrower was the defending champion Kristjan Čeh. His 68.31m opened up a big lead. Near the end of the round, Matthew Denny moved into second with a 66.39m. In the second round, Gudžius improved to 66.16m, the Čeh made a big improvement in his lead to 69.27m. Daniel Ståhl stepped into second with at 66.58m, then Mykolas Alekna took it from him with 67.08m. In the third round, Fedrick Dacres moved into third with his 66.72m and the field was put into a new order. In the fourth round, Denny tossed it 68.24m for a new second place. Kristjan Čeh
Kristjan Čeh / tʃex/ (born 17 February 1999) is a Slovenian athlete specialising in the discus throw. He won the gold medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, setting a championship record in the process. Čeh placed second at the 2023 World Championships and the 2022 European Championships. Career He represented his country at the 2019 World Athletics Championships without qualifying for the final. Earlier that year he won a gold medal at the European U23 Championships in Gävle, Sweden. His personal best in the event was 68.75 metres set in Maribor in 2020, until he improved it with 69.52 m (National record) at Mestni stadion, in Ptuj, on 27 May 2021. Jürgen Schult
Jürgen Schult (; born 11 May 1960) is a German former track and field athlete and, from 1986 until 2024, the world record holder in the discus throw. Schult represented East Germany in the 1988 Olympic discus competition, where he won the gold medal. Biography Born in Amt Neuhaus, now in Lower Saxony, Schult was unable to compete in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles due to his country's boycott of the games. Ehsan Haddadi or Ehsan Hadadi (, born January 20, 1985, in Tehran) is the President of Islamic Republic of Iran Athletics Federation since July 2024. He is a former Iranian discus thrower. His height is 193 cm and his weight is 127 kg. The 2004 Asian Junior Champion, he won a gold medal at the 2004 World Junior Championships In Grosseto, the inaugural Iranian to win a medal at any global athletics competition. Frantz Kruger (born 22 May 1975 in Kempton Park, South Africa) is a South African born Finnish discus thrower who won the Olympic bronze medal in 2000. He is also a double African champion.
