2023 Women's Varsity Football
The 2023 Women's Varsity Football was the tenth edition of the South African women's university soccer competition. It involved some of the top football playing universities in the country. The tournament is run by Varsity Sports SA, and is endorsed by the South African Football Association and University Sport South Africa. It was hosted at TUT Stadium by Tshwane University of Technology. The University of Johannesburg were defending champions. They lost the title 2-0 in the final against the University of the Western Cape. The University of Fort Hare made their debut. Women's Varsity Football
Women's Varsity Football, also known as Women's Varsity Diski, is a South African university football competition. It is one of seven sports in the Varsity Sports series. The annual tournament involves the top women's football playing universities in the country, which belong to the University Sports Company. The tournament is managed by Advent Sport Entertainment and Media (ASEM) on behalf of the University Sports Company (USC), and is endorsed by the South African Football Association and University Sport South Africa. History The inaugural tournament was held in 2013, with UJ Ladies winning the final 6-0 against TUT Ladies. The 2017 edition was hosted by Tshwane University of Technology at TUT Stadium. TUT Ladies defeated UJ Ladies 4-0 in the final to win their fourth consecutive title. The 2018 edition was hosted by the North-West University at NWU McArthur Stadium. The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is a public university located in Johannesburg, South Africa. The University of Johannesburg came into existence on 1 January 2005 as the result of a merger between the Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), the Technikon Witwatersrand (TWR) and the Soweto and East Rand campuses of Vista University. Prior to the merger, the Daveyton and Soweto campuses of the former Vista University had been incorporated into RAU. UKZN Ladies FC
The University of KwaZulu-Natal Women's football club, also known as UKZN Ladies F.C. or UKZN W.F.C, is the women's football club representing the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal based in Westville, Kwa-Zulu Natal. The senior team competes in the Sasol Women's League, the second tier women's football league in South Africa. History In 2018, they made their Women's Varsity Football debut. UFH Ladies FC
The University of Fort Hare Women's F.C., also knowns as UFH Ladies F.C., is the football club representing the University of Fort Hare based in Alice, Eastern Cape. The team competes in the SAFA Women's League, the top tier women's football league in South Africa. They won the 2023 Sasol League National Championship to became the first team from the Eastern Cape to win the tournament. History In the 2023 Eastern Cape Sasol Women's League Coastal Stream, they were unbeaten with 15 wins and 1 draw. In the provincial play off to crown the Eastern Cape champion they won 4-1 against Inland Stream winners Executive Ladies and gained entry into the Sasol League National Championship as the Eastern Cape Sasol Women's League winners. South African Standard Time
South African Standard Time (SAST) is the time zone used by all of South Africa as well as Eswatini and Lesotho. The zone is two hours ahead of UTC ( UTC+02:00) and is the same as Central Africa Time. Daylight saving time is not observed in either time zone. Solar noon in this time zone occurs at 30° E in SAST, effectively making Pietermaritzburg at the correct solar noon point, with Johannesburg and Pretoria slightly west at 28° E and Durban slightly east at 31° E. Thus, most of South Africa's population experience true solar noon at approximately 12:00 daily. The western Northern Cape and Western Cape differ, however. The University of the Western Cape Women's F.C., also known as UWC Ladies F.C., is the women's football club representing the University of the Western Cape based in Bellville, Western Cape. The senior team competes in the SAFA Women's League, the top tier women's football league in South Africa. In 2024 they won the 2024 COSAFA Women's Champions League and qualified for the 2024 CAF Women's Champions League becoming the first university to qualify for the CAF Women's Champions League. The Tshwane University of Technology Women's F.C., also knowns as TUT Ladies F.C. or TUT Matsatsantsa, is the football club representing the Tshwane University of Technology based in Pretoria, Gauteng. The senior team competes in the SAFA Women's League, the top tier women's football league in South Africa. In 2023, they partnered with SuperSport United to form TUT Matsatsantsa. University Of Fort Hare
The University of Fort Hare is a public university in Alice, Eastern Cape, South Africa. It was a key institution of higher education for Africans from 1916 to 1959 when it offered a Western-style academic education to students from across sub-Saharan Africa, creating an African elite. The Durban University of Technology (DUT) is a multi-campus university situated in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It was formed in 2002 following the merger of Technikon Natal and ML Sultan Technikon and it was initially known as the Durban Institute of Technology.
