2023 Ukrainian Counteroffensive
In early June 2023, during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine launched a Counter-offensive, counteroffensive against Russian forces Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine, occupying its territory with a goal of breaching the front lines. Efforts were made in many directions, primarily in Donetsk Oblast, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia oblast, Zaporizhzhia oblasts. In total, Ukraine recaptured 14 villages in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, with a total pre-war population of around 5,000. The counteroffensive was widely regarded as a crucial moment in the war. Planning for a major Ukrainian counteroffensive had begun as early as February 2023, with the original intention being to launch it in the spring. Rivnopil (; ) is a village in Volnovakha Raion (district) in Donetsk Oblast of eastern Ukraine, at about southwest by west ( SWbW) of the centre of Donetsk city. It belongs to Velyka Novosilka settlement hromada. It is situated on the border of the Donetsk Oblast and the Zaporizhia Oblast. History The village was taken under control by Russian forces in March 2022 and was regained by Ukrainian forces on 25 June 2023. Mikhail Yuryevich Teplinsky (; ; born 9 January 1969) is a Russian colonel general born in Soviet Ukraine who has served as commander of the Russian Airborne Forces since June 2022. He was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation in 1995. Yurii Ivanovych Sodol (; born 26 December 1970) is a retired Ukrainian lieutenant general and was the Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from February to June 2024. Oleksandr Stanislavovych Syrskyi (; born 26 July 1965) is a Ukrainian military officer. Holding the rank of four-star general, he has served as the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since . Klishchiivka, known as Karlivka until 1945, is a village in Bakhmut Raion, Donetsk Oblast, eastern Ukraine.
