2023 NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey Tournament
The 2023 NCAA National Collegiate women's ice hockey tournament was a single-elimination tournament by eleven schools to determine the national champion of women's NCAA Division I college ice hockey. This is the second year the tournament features an expanded field of 11 teams. The first round and quarterfinals were played on the campuses of seeded teams on March 9 and 11, 2023, while the Frozen Four was played on March 17 and 19, 2023 at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minnesota. The Wisconsin Badgers defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes 1–0 to win their 7th national championship. Qualifying teams In the second year under this qualification format, the winners of all five Division I conference tournaments received automatic berths to the NCAA tournament. AMSOIL Arena
AMSOIL Arena is a multipurpose arena in Duluth, Minnesota, home to the UMD Men's and UMD Women's hockey teams. It opened in 2010, replacing the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center Arena on the waterfront near Duluth's landmark Aerial Lift Bridge. Naming rights for 20 years were purchased by AMSOIL, a corporation based in Superior, Wisconsin, for $6 million, one-third up front. The facility cost nearly $80 million; about half ($38 million) paid by the State of Minnesota through a 2008 bond bill, another 27% (about $21.6 million) by a voter-approved city food-and-beverage tax increase, 12% (about $9.6 million) by UMD, and the last 11% (about $8.8 million) by the DECC. Penn State Nittany Lions women's ice hockey is a college ice hockey program that has represented Penn State University in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and College Hockey America (CHA) since the 2012–13 season. Sophie Shirley (born June 30, 1999) is a Canadian ice hockey player from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, currently playing with PWHL Boston of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She made her debut with the Canadian women's national team in a two-game exhibition series against the United States in December 2016. Playing career Shirley was a member of Saskatchewan's women's ice hockey team that competed in the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Lacey Eden (born May 2, 2002) is an American women's ice hockey player for Wisconsin and member of the United States women's national ice hockey team. Playing career Eden began her collegiate career for the Wisconsin Badgers during the 2020–21 season. During her first month with the team, she tied for the league lead among rookies in goals (three), assists (four) and points (seven), shots on goal (23), and plus/minus (+6). The Ohio State University Ice Rink is a 1,000-seat hockey rink located at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, United States.
