2023 Men's British Open Squash Championship
The Men's 2023 British Open was the men's edition of the 2023 British Open Squash Championships, which is a 2022–23 PSA World Tour event. The event took place at the Edgbaston Priory Club, Birmingham Repertory Theatre in Birmingham in England between 9 April and 16 April 2023. After three consecutive defeats in the three previous finals, Egypt's Ali Farag finally won the title, after defeating Peruvian Diego Elías. The British Open Squash Championships is the oldest tournament in the game of squash. It is widely considered to be one of the two most prestigious tournaments in the game, alongside the World Squash Championships (prior to the establishment of the World Squash Championships which was called the World Open at the time) in the 1970s, the British Open was generally considered to be the ''de facto'' world championship of the sport. Paul Daniel Coll (born 9 May 1992) is a professional squash player from New Zealand. In March 2022, he became the first New Zealand man to achieve a world ranking of World No. 1. Omar Mosaad Abouzid (born March 17, 1988 in Cairo) is a professional squash player who represents Egypt. He reached a career-high world ranking of World No. 3 in 2016. George Parker (born 25 April 1996, in Leicester), is a professional squash player who represents England. Squash career Parker made his professional debut in 2012 whilst finishing his junior career that culminated in him winning the Under-19 European Championships in 2015, defeating Edmon Lopez Moller of Spain in the final. Parker first joined the PSA Tour in 2015 and won the Barcelona Open just six months later, this triumph saw him break into the world's top 100 rankings for the first time. In 2016, his fiery temperament resulted in a warning for breaking a racquet during a match in frustration and the Professional Squash Association (PSA) later handed George a six-month suspension.
