2023 Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship
The 2023 Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship was the fourth staging of the Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship and the 135th staging overall of a championship for the top-ranking hurling teams in Cork. The draw for the group stage placings took place on 11 December 2022. The championship ran from 6 June to 15 October 2023. St. Finbarr's entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Sarsfields in the semi-finals. 27-time champions Glen Rovers' relegation brought an end to 97 years of top tier hurling for the club. The final was played on 15 October 2023 at Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork, between Sarsfields and Midleton, in what was second meeting in the final overall and a first meeting in 10 years. Páirc Uí Chaoimh ( ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Cork, Ireland. It is the home of Cork GAA. The venue, often referred to simply as The Park, is located in Ballintemple and is built near to the site of the original Cork Athletic Grounds. The stadium opened in 1976 and underwent a significant two-year redevelopment before reopening in 2017. Primarily used as a venue for Gaelic games, it has been used to host Cork's home league and championship games in both Gaelic football and hurling. Charleville ( ga, Ráth Luirc or ''An Ráth'') is a town in north County Cork, Ireland. It lies in the Golden Vale, on a tributary of the River Maigue, near the border with County Limerick. Charleville GAA club is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in the town of Charleville, County Cork, Ireland. The club is affiliated with the Cork GAA county board and the Avondhu divisional board. History Charleville or Rathluirc GAA club was founded in 1888, and was drawn against Ballyhea in the championship that year. In 1914 the club had its first success winning the county Middle Grade ( Intermediate) hurling championship. In the early 1930s, after experiencing some lean years, the club decided to run street leagues for the whole parish initially at adult level and later at minor level. Niall Cashman (born 26 July 1995) is an Irish hurler who plays as a left wing-back for Cork Championship club Blackrock and at inter-county level with the Cork senior team. Playing career Blackrock Cashman joined Blackrock at a young age, a club with whom his family had a long tradition. His father, Jim Cashman, uncle, Tom Cashman, grandfather, Mick Cashman, and granduncle, Jimmy Brohan, were senior team mainstays from the 1950s until the 1990s. His underage career coincided with a hugely successful period for the club, with Cashman winning three successive minor titles before back-to-back under-21 championships in a five-year period between 2011 and 2015. Blackrock, Cork
Blackrock is a suburb, with a village core, in the southeast of Cork City, Ireland. Originally a small fishing village about five kilometres from Cork City, the growth of the city over time has meant that the village has become incorporated into the city. Blackrock National Hurling Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club located on the southside of Cork City, Ireland. The club was founded in 1883 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. No other Cork-based GAA club has won more Senior County Hurling titles or All-Ireland Club Championships. Na Piarsaigh are a hurling and Gaelic football club based in the north side of Cork City, Ireland. History Formation In 1943 a group of idealistic young men drawn mostly from the hurling nursery of North Mon laid the foundations of Cumann Iomana & Peile Na Piarsaigh. The group had its first formal meeting in the presbytery of the North Cathedral. The young men called upon one of their teachers, Donnacha Ó Murchú, for guidance and assistance.
