2022–23 Xavier Musketeers Men's Basketball Team
The 2022–23 Xavier Musketeers men's basketball team represented Xavier University during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season as a member of the Big East Conference. Led by Sean Miller in the first season of his second stint after coaching the Musketeers from 2004 to 2009, they played their home games at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Musketeers finished the season 23–8, 15–5 in Big East play to finish in second place. In the Big East tournament, they defeated DePaul and Creighton to reach the championship game, where they were defeated by Marquette. The team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, where they defeated Kennesaw State and Pittsburgh to advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2017. There they were defeated by Texas, bringing their season to a close with a final record of 27–10. Sean Miller
Sean Edward Miller (born November 17, 1968) is an American college basketball coach who currently serves as head coach at the Texas Longhorns men's basketball, University of Texas at Austin. He previously served as head coach at the Arizona Wildcats men's basketball, University of Arizona from 2009 to 2021 and Xavier Musketeers men's basketball, Xavier University from 2004 to 2009 and then again from 2022 to 2025. Miller is a three-time gold medalist as a member of United States men's national basketball team, USA Basketball: once as a player, once as an assistant coach, and once as head coach. 2021–22 Butler Bulldogs Men's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 Butler Bulldogs men's basketball team represented Butler University in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were coached by LaVall Jordan, in his fifth year as head coach of his alma mater. The Bulldogs played their home games at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana as members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 14–19, 6–14 in Big East play to finish in ninth place. They defeated Xavier in the first round of the Big East tournament before losing to Providence in the quarterfinals. On April 1, 2022, the school fired head coach LaVall Jordan. Two days later, the school named Thad Matta the team's new head coach. Paul Scruggs
Paul Edward Scruggs (born March 9, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for Trefl Sopot of the Polish Basketball League (PLK). He previously played for the Xavier Musketeers of the Big East Conference. High school career Scruggs played for Southport High School in Indianapolis, Indiana in his first three years of high school. As a junior, he averaged 19 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game, leading his team to its first regional title since 1990. The Arizona Wildcats men's basketball team is the college basketball, intercollegiate men's basketball program representing the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Jonas Hayes
Jonas Hayes (born August 9, 1981) is an American college basketball coach and former player. He is the current head coach of Georgia State. He previously served as an assistant coach, and later interim head coach, for the Xavier Musketeers. He was also an assistant coach for the Morehouse Maroon Tigers, South Carolina State Bulldogs, Belmont Abbey Crusaders, and Georgia Bulldogs. Hayes played college basketball for the Western Carolina Catamounts and Georgia Bulldogs. Travis Steele
Travis Andrew Steele (born November 12, 1981) is an American college basketball coach, and current head basketball coach at Miami (OH). He recently served as the head coach at Xavier. Coaching career Steele began coaching as an undergraduate at Butler University, assisting the varsity boys basketball team at nearby Ben Davis HS from 2001 to 2004. He served one season as a graduate manager at Ohio State before landing his first college coaching position as an assistant coach at Wabash Valley in 2005. The 2021–22 Texas A&M Aggies men's basketball team represented Texas A&M University during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by third-year head coach Buzz Williams and played their home games at Reed Arena in College Station, Texas as a member of the Southeastern Conference.
