The 2022–23 season is Stoke City's 106th season in the Football League, the 46th in the second tier and ninth in the Championship. Pre-season and friendlies In February 2022 Stoke announced a five-year multi-million pound refurbishment programme for the bet365 Stadium and the Clayton Wood Training Ground beginning in the summer of 2022 with the replacement of 8,400 seats in the Franklyn Stand and regeneration of The Players' Lounge and Delilah’s Bar. Leaving the club in the transfer window were Benik Afobe, Joe Allen, James Chester, Alfie Doughty, Steven Fletcher, Tom Ince, Christian Norton, Tashan Oakley-Boothe, Tommy Smith and Mario Vrančić. Clayton Wood Training Ground
Clayton Wood is the training ground and academy of EFL Championship club Stoke City. Development In January 2009, Stoke City unveiled plans to redevelop their training ground at an initial cost of £5 million. Stoke City were given planning permission by the Stoke-on-Trent City Council to construct the facility in May 2009; Stoke had previously been renting the site from the Michelin Tyre company. The facility was designed by AFL architects who had previously designed Chelsea's Cobham Training Centre and Everton's Finch Farm. The centre was built in time for the start of the 2010–11 season. Dwight Gayle
Dwight Devon Boyd Gayle (born 17 October 1989) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for EFL Championship club Stoke City. Gayle played in the Arsenal academy as a youth, but was released in 2007, after which he began his career with Ryan of the Essex Olympian Football League. In subsequent seasons, he would work his way back up through the English football pyramid via stints at Stansted, Bishop's Stortford, Dagenham & Redbridge and Peterborough United, before establishing himself in the Premier League with Crystal Palace. Aden Flint (born 11 July 1989) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender. Club career Early career Flint began his career in the Central Midlands Football League with Pinxton before stepping up to the Conference North in the summer of 2008 when he joined Alfreton Town. At Alfreton, Flint worked part-time tarmacking roads. Flint spent three months of his debut season at Alfreton on loan with Northern Premier League Premier Division side Matlock Town. The adverse weather prevented Flint from playing many games but he scored in the 5–0 victory over Leigh Genesis in January 2009. Mario Vrančić (; born 23 May 1989) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Bosnian Premier League club Sarajevo. Vrančić started his professional career at Mainz 05, playing mainly in its reserve team. In 2009, he was sent on loan to Rot Weiss Ahlen. Two years later, he joined Borussia Dortmund II. Thomas George Smith (born 14 April 1992) is an English professional footballer who plays as a right back for Middlesbrough. Tashan Dinnachi L. Oakley-Boothe (born 14 February 2000) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for EFL League One side Lincoln City on loan from Stoke City. Christian Anthony Norton (born 21 May 2001) is a professional footballer who plays as a forward. Born in England, he has represented Wales at under-19 and under-21 levels. Career Stoke City Norton began his career at Southampton and made his senior debut with the under-23 team on 9 October 2018 in the EFL Trophy against Cambridge United. Thomas Christopher Ince (born 30 January 1992) is an English professional footballer who plays as either an attacking midfielder, winger or forward for EFL Championship club Reading. Steven Kenneth Fletcher (born 26 March 1987) is a professional footballer who plays as a striker for Scottish Premiership club Dundee United. Fletcher began his club career with Hibernian, playing in 156 Scottish Premier League games and scoring 43 goals. English club Burnley paid a club record transfer fee of £3 million to sign Fletcher in June 2009. Alfie Henry Harman Doughty (born 21 December 1999) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Luton Town. Career Charlton Athletic Doughty joined the Charlton Athletic Academy at the age of eight and progressed through the youth teams to the first team where he made his debut in the EFL Cup against Milton Keynes Dons on 14 August 2018.
