2022–23 Richmond Spiders Men's Basketball Team
The 2022–23 Richmond Spiders men's basketball team represented the University of Richmond during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led by 18th-year head coach Chris Mooney and played their home games at the Robins Center as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. On February 17, 2023, Richmond announced that Mooney would miss the remainder of the 2022–23 season due to heart surgery to address an aneurysm in his ascending aorta. Assistant coach and former Richmond player Peter Thomas served as interim head coach in Mooney's absence, and Mooney returned to his position after the conclusion of the season. Chris Mooney (basketball)
Christopher Scott Mooney (born August 7, 1972) is an American college basketball coach and the current head men's basketball coach at the University of Richmond. Prior to taking the helm of the Richmond Spiders, Spiders basketball program, he was the head coach at United States Air Force Academy, Air Force. In his only year there, he led the Falcons to their second best record in school history (18–12). He played college basketball at Princeton University, Princeton. As a four-year starter at Princeton, he ranks 22nd on the school's all-time leading scoring list with 1,071 points, and 11th in three-point field goals made (142). John Marshall High School, known colloquially as Jayem, is a secondary public school located in Richmond, Virginia, part of the Richmond Public Schools, serving grades 9–12. History Named after Founding Father John Marshall, who also served as the fourth chief justice of the United States, the school originally opened in 1909, serving an all-white student body. The Citadel Bulldogs basketball team represents The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina in the sport of men's college basketball.
