2022–23 North Texas Mean Green Men's Basketball Team
The 2022–23 North Texas Mean Green men's basketball team represented the University of North Texas during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by fifth-year head coach Grant McCasland, and played their home games at UNT Coliseum in Denton, Texas as a member of Conference USA (C-USA). They finished the season 31–7, going 16–4 in C-USA play to finish in second place. They defeated Louisiana Tech in the quarterfinals of the C-USA tournament before losing to UAB. They received an at-large bid to the National Invitation Tournament as a No. 2 seed. They defeated Alcorn State, Sam Houston, Oklahoma State and Wisconsin to advance to the championship game. There they defeated C-USA foe UAB to win the NIT championship. On March 31, 2023, head coach Grant McCasland left the school to take the head coaching position at Texas Tech. Grant McCasland
Grant McCasland (born October 14, 1976) is an American college basketball coach who is currently the head men's basketball coach at Texas Tech University. McCasland previously coached at North Texas from 2017 to 2023, where he guided the Mean Green to two postseason tournament championships: the 2018 College Basketball Invitational and 2023 National Invitation Tournament. He was previously an assistant at his alma mater, Baylor, and head coach at Midwestern State, Midland College, and Arkansas State. Rowlett (, traditionally ) is a city in Dallas and Rockwall Counties in Texas, United States, and an eastern suburb of Dallas. 2022 National Invitation Tournament
The 2022 National Invitation Tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 32 NCAA Division I men's college basketball teams not selected to participate in the 2022 NCAA tournament. The tournament began on March 15 and ended on March 31. The first three rounds were played on campuses, with the semifinal and championship final played at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
