2022–23 James Madison Dukes Men's Basketball Team
The 2022–23 James Madison Dukes men's basketball team represented James Madison University in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Dukes, led by third-year head coach Mark Byington, played their home games at the Atlantic Union Bank Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia as members of the Sun Belt Conference. The season marks the Dukes' first season in the Sun Belt Conference as they had previously been members of the Colonial Athletic Association. Previous season During the 2021–22 season, the Dukes competed in the Colonial Athletic Association, of which they had been a member since the conference was founded in 1979. They completed the season at 15–14 overall and 6–12 in CAA play to finish in eighth place. Mark Byington
Mark Byington (born April 22, 1976) is an American basketball coach and former player who is currently the head men's basketball coach at Vanderbilt University. He previously served as the head basketball coach at James Madison University. High school playing career Mark Byington played high school basketball at Salem High School (Salem, Virginia), Salem High School located in Salem, Virginia. He led the Salem Spartans coached by former Dobyns-Bennett High School, Dobyns-Bennett head coach Charlie Morgan to a 26–1 record in the 1993–94 season and to the Group AA state championship defeating Louisa County. His #32 jersey has since been retired by Salem High School along with #11 Richard Morgan, who was an All-American. The SIU Edwardsville Cougars men's basketball team represents Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) in the Ohio Valley Conference of NCAA Division I basketball. The North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's basketball team represents the University of North Dakota NCAA Division I men's basketball. The Fighting Hawks are members of the Summit League. Prior to membership in the Summit, they were members of Division II's North Central Conference and Division I's Great West Conference and Big Sky Conference. The current head coach is Paul Sather. The Fighting Hawks made their only appearance in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in 2017.
