2022–23 Horizon League Men's Basketball Season
The 2022–23 Horizon League men's basketball season began with practices in September 2022 and ended with the 2023 Horizon League men's basketball tournament in March 2023. This wase the 43rd season for Horizon League men's basketball. This was the first season in conference history with 11 teams, as UIC departed for the Missouri Valley Conference following the 2021-22 season. NCAA Division II (D-II) is the intermediate-level division of competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It offers an alternative to both the larger and better-funded Division I and to the scholarship-free environment offered in Division III. The Wheeling Cardinals are the athletic teams that represent Wheeling University, located in Wheeling, West Virginia, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), primarily competing in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) as a founding member since the 2013–14 academic year. Michael Davis (born September 15, 1960) is an American basketball coach at the University of Memphis. Prior to that he was most recently the head men's basketball coach at the University of Detroit Mercy, a position he held from 2018 to 2024. Davis also served as the head men's basketball coach at Indiana University Bloomington from 2000 to 2006, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) from 2006 to 2012, and Texas Southern University from 2012 to 2018. William Francis Ryan III (born July 8, 1978) is an American basketball coach who is the former head coach of the Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team. Early life and education Ryan is a native of Platteville, Wisconsin. He began his college basketball career at Wisconsin–Platteville. He helped the team win two Division III championships in 1998 and 1999. Ryan transferred to Milwaukee and played his senior season under Bruce Pearl. The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team is an NCAA Division I college basketball team competing in the Horizon League for the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay. They are coached by Doug Gottlieb. Harvey Daniyal Robinson (born April 28, 1976) is an American collegiate basketball coach who is currently the head men's basketball coach at North Texas. Dennis Gates (born January 14, 1980) is an American college basketball coach and former player who is the head coach of the Missouri Tigers men's basketball team. Playing career Gates played college basketball at California Golden Bears men's basketball, California, where he was a two-time first-team All-Academic selection in the Pac-12 Conference, Pac-10, having graduated in three years, playing his senior season as a master's degree candidate.
