2022–23 Georgia State Panthers Men's Basketball Team
The 2022–23 Georgia State Panthers men's basketball team represented Georgia State University during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Panthers, led by first-year head coach Jonas Hayes, played their home games at new the GSU Convocation Center in Atlanta, Georgia as members of the Sun Belt Conference. Previous season The Panthers finished the 2021–22 season 18–11, 9–5 in Sun Belt play to finish in third place. They defeated Arkansas State, Appalachian State, and Louisiana to win the Sun Belt tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 16 seed in the West region. They lost in the first round to overall No. 1 seed Gonzaga. Jonas Hayes
Jonas Hayes (born August 9, 1981) is an American college basketball coach and former player. He is the current head coach of Georgia State. He previously served as an assistant coach, and later interim head coach, for the Xavier Musketeers. He was also an assistant coach for the Morehouse Maroon Tigers, South Carolina State Bulldogs, Belmont Abbey Crusaders, and Georgia Bulldogs. Hayes played college basketball for the Western Carolina Catamounts and Georgia Bulldogs. College career Hayes and his twin brother, Jarvis, initially enrolled at Western Carolina University in 1999 to play for the Western Carolina Catamounts. In his freshman season, Hayes averaged 8.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game on an average of 18.4 minutes. Xavier Musketeers Men's Basketball
The Xavier Musketeers men's basketball team represents Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. The school's team currently competes in the Big East Conference. Xavier has appeared in the NCAA tournament 30 times, 16 times in the 18 tournaments between 2001 and 2018. On March 11, 2018, Xavier earned its first ever No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
