2022–23 Drake Bulldogs Women's Basketball Team
The 2022–23 Drake Bulldogs women's basketball team represented Drake University during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Bulldogs, led by second-year head coach Allison Pohlman, played their home games at Knapp Center in Des Moines, Iowa as members of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). The Bulldogs finished the season 22–10, 14–6 in MVC play, to finish in a tie for fourth place. In the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference women's basketball tournament, MVC tournament, they defeated Missouri State Lady Bears basketball, Missouri State in the quarterfinals, upset top-seeded Illinois State Redbirds women's basketball, Illinois State in the semifinals and Belmont Bruins women's basketball, Belmont to win the MVC tournament championship and earn the conference's automatic bid into the 2023 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament, NCAA tournament. Allison Pohlman
Allison Pohlman (née Starr; born October 6, 1977) is an American basketball coach and the current head coach of the Drake Bulldogs women's basketball team. She took over the position in April 2021, following Jennie Baranczyk's hiring at Oklahoma Sooners women's basketball, Oklahoma. Pohlman had been an associate head coach and assistant coach at Drake since 2007. Prior to Drake, she was an assistant coach at Northern Iowa Panthers women's basketball, Northern Iowa, her alma mater, and served as associate head coach there from 2006 to 2007. Playing career A Wellsburg, Iowa native, playing at Northern Iowa, Pohlman was named to the Missouri Valley Conference's All-Freshman team and, in the three successive seasons, she was named All-MVC First Team and to the conference's All-Defensive Team.
