2022 World Women's Curling Championship
The 2022 World Women's Curling Championship (branded as the 2022 BKT Tires & OK Tire World Women's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was held from March 19 to 27 at the CN Centre in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. Prince George was originally chosen to host the 2020 World Women's Curling Championship, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The format for the Championship returned to a 13 team round robin opposed to the 14 teams qualified for the 2021 World Women's Curling Championship. The top six teams qualified for the playoff round, where the top two teams received a bye while the remaining four played the first round. The no-tick rule was used for the first time at a World Championship tournament. Scotland and Japan were forced to withdraw from the tournament due to COVID-19 issues within their teams. On March 12, 2020, following the recommendations of Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry, the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was set to be the first event to start gathering points towards the 2022 Winter Olympic Qualification. Upon cancellation, the qualifying process was left unclear. Rebecca Morrison
Rebecca Morrison (born 22 August 1996) is a Scottish curler from Glasgow. She currently skips her own team out of Stirling. The team won the 2022 Scottish Curling Championships in Dumfries. Career Rebecca Morrison's national curling career has been closely intertwined with that of the Team GB nine-player squad. In being part of this squad, she skipped Team GB to the Euro Super Series championship in 2019. She later formed her current squad, with two of the other three members previous being on the team (the only person not is lead Sophie Jackson). Team Morrison, competing with third/vice-skip Gina Aitken, second Sophie Sinclair, and lead Sophie Jackson, won the 2022 Scottish Curling Championships which qualified them for the 2022 World Women's Curling Championship in Prince George. 2022 World Qualification Event
The 2022 World Qualification Event for the World Curling Championships was held from January 18 to 22 at the Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland. The competition originally consisted of sixteen teams divided evenly into men's and women's divisions. The Brazilian Men's Team and the Kazakh Women's Team were removed from the competition schedule days before the tournament due to travel complications, leaving the competition with fourteen teams divided evenly into each division. The top two teams in the men's division qualified to compete at the 2022 World Men's Championship and similarly the top two teams in the women's division qualified to compete at the 2022 World Women's Championship. 2021 European Curling Championships
The 2021 European Curling Championships were held in September and November 2021, to qualify European curling teams for the 2022 World Curling Championships and World Qualification Event. The A and B division competitions were held from November 20 to 27 in Lillehammer, Norway. The C division competition was held from September 12 to 17 in Geneva, Switzerland. The top eight men's teams qualified for the 2022 World Men's Curling Championship. The host of the qualifier (Finland) and the remaining team in the A division as well as the top three teams in the B division qualified for the 2022 World Qualification Event. Dilşat Yıldız (born September 29, 1996) is a Turkish female curler. She is a member of Çelebi S.K. in Erzurum. Currently, she is studying physical education and sports at the Fırat University. She is the first ever Turkish curler to skip a men's or women's team at the World Championship, competing in the 2022 World Women's Curling Championship. Career While simultaneously competing on the women's team, Yıldız skipped the Turkish national junior team from 2013 to 2018. Notably, she reached the final of the 2015 European Junior Curling Challenge, the final of two consecutive World Junior-B Curling Championships and skipped the Turkish team at three World Junior Curling Championships.
