2022 Southland Conference Women's Basketball Tournament
The 2022 Southland Conference women's basketball tournament was the postseason women's basketball tournament for the 2021–22 season in the Southland Conference. The tournament took place March 10–13, 2022. The tournament winner received an automatic invitation to the 2022 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament. Seeds Teams were seeded by record within the conference, with a tie-breaker system to seed teams with identical conference records. All eight teams in the conference qualified for the tournament. The top two seeds received double byes into the semifinals in the merit-based format. The No. 3 and No. 4 seeds received single byes to the quarterfinals. Tiebreakers used are 1) Head-to-head results, 2) comparison of records against individual teams in the conference starting with the top-ranked team(s) and working down and 3) NCAA NET rankings available on the day following the conclusion of regular-season play. Merrell Center
The Leonard E. Merrell Center (commonly known as the Merrell Center) is a 7,200-seat multi-purpose arena in Katy, Texas. It was built in 2005 and was the former home of the Katy Copperheads (National Indoor Football League) and the Katy Ruff Riders of the Intense Football League. The Merrell Center has hosted the Southland Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments from 2008 to 2022, but both tournaments will move to The Legacy Center on the campus of McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 2023. The Houston Stallions of the Lone Star Football League moved to the Merrell Center in 2011. As a concert venue the arena seats 1,500 for theater shows and up to 7,200 for arena concerts. 2021–22 Incarnate Word Cardinals Women's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 Incarnate Word Cardinals women's basketball team represented the University of the Incarnate Word in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Cardinals were led by coach Jeff Dow, in his third season, and are members of the Southland Conference. The Cardinals played their home games at the McDermott Center on campus in San Antonio, Texas. They finished the season 12–16, 5–9 in Southland play, to finish tied in sixth place. Southland Conference
The Southland Conference (SLC) is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the South Central United States (specifically Texas and Louisiana). It participates in the NCAA's Division I for all sports; for football, it participates in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Southland sponsors 18 sports, 10 for women and eight for men, and is governed by a presidential Board of Directors and an Advisory Council of athletic and academic administrators. Chris Grant became the Southland's seventh commissioner on April 5, 2022. From 1996 to 2002, for football only, the Southland Conference was known as the Southland Football League.
