2022 Racquetball World Championships – Men's Doubles
ThInternational Racquetball Federation's21st Racquetball World Championships was held in San Luis Potosí, Mexico from August 20–27, 2022. This was the first time the World Championships was held in Mexico since 2000, when it was also held in San Luis Potosí. The 2022 World Championships used a best of five games match format with each game to 11 points, win by 2, with rally scoring, as used in other sports like squash and volleyball. Previously, racquetball games used side-out scoring, where players scored points only when they had won a rally which began with that player serving. Rallies won when not serving were simply side-outs: the rally losing player lost the serve and the rally winning player won the opportunity to serve, but did not win a point. San Luis Potosí
San Luis Potosí, officially the Free and Sovereign State of San Luis Potosí, is one of the 32 states which compose the Federal Entities of Mexico. Álvaro Beltrán
Álvaro Beltrán (born October 15, 1978), is a Mexican professional racquetball player. Beltrán is the currenInternational Racquetball Federation(IRF) World Champion in Men's Doubles with Daniel De La Rosa, winning the title in 2022 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He was the second man to win both Men's Singles and Men's Doubles at the Racquetball World Championships. His six world titles (1 singles & 5 doubles) tie him for 3rd most in IRF history. Beltran has been a top 10 player on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) for 18 seasons. Professional career Beltrán was the first Mexican to be ranked in the top 10 IRT at season's end in 2000-01, and has been a top 10 IRT player in 18 seasons finishing at #3 (his career high) four times. Conrrado Moscoso
Conrrado Moscoso (born September 26, 1995) is a Bolivian racquetball player. He is a formeInternational Racquetball Federation(IRF) Men's Singles World Champion, which he won at the 2022 Racquetball World Championships in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Moscoso is the first Bolivian and first South American man to win an IRF World Championship in singles. Moscoso is also the current Pan American Champion in Men's Doubles and the Men's Team event, which are his sixth and seventh Pan American titles. He also won gold in Men's Singles at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, as well as helping Bolivia to successfully defend the Men's Team gold medal they first won at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, which was the first gold medal won by Bolivia in any sport at the Pan American Games. Coby Iwaasa
Coby Iwaasa (born June 19, 1996) is a Canadian racquetball player. He is the currenInternational Racquetball Federation(IRF) World Champion in Men's Doubles, winning the title with Samuel Murray in 2024. Previously, Iwaasa and Murray won the 2022 Pan American Championships Men's Doubles title, and he won two silver medals at the Racquetball at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago. Junior competitions Iwaasa was a prodigious player as a junior, winning several Canadian Junior National Championships (Junior Nationals), including four Boy's U18 titles, which is a record. In Boys' Singles, he won U10 in 2007, Boy's U12 in 2009, and Boy's U14 in 2011. In 2012 and 2013, Iwaasa won both Boy's U16 and Boy's U18 at Junior Nationals. Samuel Murray (racquetball)
Samuel Murray (born June 4, 1993) is a Canadian racquetball player. He is the currenInternational Racquetball Federation(IRF) World Champion in Men's Doubles, winning the title with Coby Iwaasa in 2024. Previously, Murray was the 2022 Pan American Champion in Men's Doubles (with Iwaasa). He has won twice on the International Racquetball Tour, and is only the second Canadian to win on the IRT (after Kane Waselenchuk), and been ranked as high as #3. He is the current Canadian Champion in Men's Singles, winning the title for a sixth time in 2024. Junior years Murray competed at the Canadian Junior National Championships on several occasions, winning six championships: three in singles and three in doubles. The International Racquetball Federation's 21st Racquetball World Championships were held at the La Loma Centro Deportivo in San Luis Potosí, Mexico from August 20–27, 2022. The results were used to seed players for an elimination round. The World Racquetball Championships is the top international racquetball competition organized by the International Racquetball Federation (IRF). History The first event was held in 1981 as part of the 1981 World Games. The second World Championships were in 1984, and they have been a biannual event since then with the exception of the COVID-19 pandemic period, which delayed the 2020 event by one year. Rally Scoring
In sport, score is a quantitative measure of the relative performance of opponents in a sporting discipline. Score is normally measured in the abstract unit of ''points'', and events in the competition can raise or lower the score of the involved parties.
