2022 RFL Women's Super League
The 2022 RFL Women's Super League (also known as the Betfred Women's Super League for sponsorship reasons) was the sixth season of the Rugby League Women's Super League, for female players in clubs affiliated to the Rugby Football League (RFL). The title was won by Leeds Rhinos who beat York City Knights 12–4 in the grand final. York had finished top of the table to win the league leader's shield. The defending champions were St Helens, who beat Leeds Rhinos 28–0 in the Grand Final at Headingley on 10 October 2021, in front of a record crowd of 4,235. The league increased the number of participating teams by 2, from 10 to 12, with Barrow Raiders and Leigh Miners Rangers being promoted to the Super League, after finishing first and second respectively in the 2021 Women's Championship. Leeds Rhinos Women
Leeds Rhinos Women are a rugby league team based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The team is part of the Leeds Rhinos club and plays in the Women's Super League. They were the RFL Women's Super League champions in 2019 and 2022, and from 2023 they became the first semi-professional women's rugby league team in the UK. History The team was formed in September 2017 with the aid of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation. In December 2017 Rhino's forward, Adam Cuthbertson was appointed coach and Lois Forsell was named as captain in March 2018. In the team's first season, they won the Women's Challenge Cup beating Castleford Tigers 20–14 in the final, at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, on 4 August 2018. The Rugby Football League Women's Super League (known as the Betfred Women's Super League due to sponsorship) is the elite women's rugby league club competition in England. Originally competed between four teams in the 2017 season, the league has developed with the 2021 season being contested by 10 teams playing home and away against each other with subsequent play-offs and Grand Final. Totally Wicked Stadium
Totally Wicked Stadium is a rugby league stadium in the Peasley Cross area of St. Helens. Known as Langtree Park until 2017, it has a capacity of over 18,000 and is the home ground of St Helens R.F.C. The stadium was granted full planning permission on 20 May 2008. On 11 July 2008 the go-ahead was given without the need for a public enquiry and construction started in 2010. The first rugby league match to be played at the stadium was between St. Helens and Widnes on Friday 20 January 2012. St. Helens won the opening game by 42–24 and they moved in ready for the 2012 Super League season. Liverpool F.C. U18s also play their home games at the stadium. The Warrington Wolves Women are the women's rugby league team of Warrington Wolves in Warrington, Cheshire, England. They compete in the RFL Women's Super League, playing their home games at Victoria Park and some games at the Halliwell Jones Stadium; the home of the men's team. History In November 2018, it was announced that Warrington Wolves were to launch a women's team and that team trials had been organised to take place in December. The club had previously had a women's team that played in the Women's Rugby League Conference and the 2012 Women's Challenge Cup. Wakefield Trinity Ladies are a women's rugby league team based in Wakefield, England. They were founded in 2016 and compete in the RFL Women's Championship. Between 2018 and 2022 they played in the Super League. History In July 2016, it was announced that the women's team for Wakefield Trinity was being established and would be based at Sharlston Rovers ARLFC for its home ground and that this would also provide its training facilities. Featherstone Rovers are a women's rugby league club from Featherstone, West Yorkshire, England, who play in Group 2 of the RFL Women's Super League. They play their home games at Post Office Road which is also home to the Featherstone Rovers men's team. History The Featherstone Rovers women's team was founded in 2011 and competed in the Women's Rugby League Conference for their first three seasons. The Castleford Tigers Women are a female rugby league club in Castleford, West Yorkshire, England, that competes in the Women's Super League, the top-level Women's rugby league club competition in the United Kingdom. The Bradford Bulls Women are an English professional women's rugby league team based in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Formed in 1999 as an autonomous club, Dudley Hill Thunderbirds, the team was also known as Bradford Thunderbirds and Bradford Clayton Thunderbirds. As the Thunderbirds the club played in the Women's Rugby League Conference and later the Women's Rugby League. Huddersfield Giants Women are an English women's rugby league team from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. They compete in the RFL Women's Super League, playing their home games at Laund Hill and double header matches with the Huddersfield Giants men's team at the John Smith's Stadium.
