2022 Orange County, Florida Mayoral Election
The 2022 Orange County, Florida, mayoral election was held on August 23, 2022, to elect the mayor of Orange County, Florida. Incumbent Jerry Demings was first elected in 2018, and was re-elected in 2022 with 60.05%. Since Demings won a majority in the first round, a runoff election was not needed. The election was officially nonpartisan, but most candidates were affiliated with political parties, and Demings is a registered Democrat. Jerry Demings
Jerry L. Demings (born June 12, 1959) is an American politician and former law enforcement officer serving as the 5th Mayor of Orange County since 2018. He is the first African American to hold the position. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as Sheriff of Orange County from 2009 to 2018 and as Chief of the Orlando Police Department from 1998 to 2002. Born and raised in Orlando, Florida, Demings graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor's degree in finance in 1980. After a brief career in accounting, he joined the Orlando Police Department in 1981 and worked as a detective until his appointment as chief of police in 1998, becoming the first African American to hold the post. WESH
WESH (channel 2) is a television station licensed to Daytona Beach, Florida, United States, serving the Orlando area as an affiliate of NBC. It is owned by Hearst Television alongside Clermont-licensed CW affiliate WKCF (channel 18). The two stations share studios on North Wymore Road in Eatonville (using a Winter Park address); WESH's transmitter is located on Brown Road near Christmas, Florida. WMFE-FM is Central Florida's National Public Radio (NPR) member station, with a format of news and information. Most programming is simulcast on WMFV (89.5 FM) in Cedar Creek, Florida. Valdez Venita Demings (née Butler; born March 12, 1957) is an American politician and former police officer who served as U.S. representative for from 2017 to 2023.
